Tell me the new Pug 3008 is not a smart looking car. Check that space-age dash!

New model has the 1st implantation of the Peugeot's new i-Cockpit.

"Displayed on a 12.3-inch digital display with multitudinous personalisation options. It’s complemented by an 8-inch touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard (a 3D sat nav among its functions), which hoovers up most of the switches, ensuring it’s all pretty minimalist inside. Buy an automatic, and you also get a wilfully odd gear selector."

That's not a bad looking car at all.

Not a huge fan of the colour in the picture - but other than that it looks awesome.

Looks stunning inside and out, but I'm not a big fan of their over the steering wheel dash. Prefer through the steering wheel...

Built-in Sat-navs in new cars - how do they compare with Google Maps?

Any new car that has its own built in sat-nav is a failure in my eyes. The nav in your smartphone will always be more up to date and easier to search, cars should just display what comes from your phone.

Any news on the 207/308 GTI?

308 GTI is scheduled for local intro market for Q3 side.

The 208 GTI is in the country for long already. If you are referring to the limited 30th anniversary edition model with 208 BHP (155kw) & 300nm then I don't think its on the cards for SA.

"A truly modern expression of driving pleasure, aimed at aesthetes who are looking for a new driving experience, the GT version crowns the brand's new SUV range. Exclusively equipped with the 2.0L BlueHDi 180 S&S EAT6, the new Peugeot 3008 GT has the benefit of a series of specific attributes as well as the optional unique and distinctive "Coupe Franche" paint design. In addition, the GT Line trim-level offers, on more affordable engine versions, a synthesis of sporty and top-of-the-range looks. The new Peugeot 3008 GT and GT Line are a key part of the brand's move up-range and will be available from the start of the commercial launch from October 2016."

Peugeot 2008 and 3008 GTi variants considered

The Peugeot 2008 and 3008 SUVs will spawn GTi models, if the market shows a demand.

Hot GTi variants would remain front-wheel drive and mark Peugeot’s first foray into the high-performance SUV segment, rivalling the likes of the Nissan Juke Nismo.

“The strategy of the brand is to have upper versions, GT, GT Line and GTi, and this strategy will be developed in all the range,” said Laurent Blanchet, head of product development.

Peugeot says it has the capability of making GTi variants, but it will only do so if customers want them.

The new 2008 and 3008 SUVs will get GT and GT Line trim levels, adding extras such as bigger alloy wheels and a leather interior, along with sporty styling. There are no engine upgrades, but the suspension is expected to be revised slightly. GTi variants would sit above them.

Peugeot is experimenting with all-wheel drive systems, but they are unlikely to be used on the SUV GTis. An all-wheel-drive plug-in 3008 is due in 2019 and an all-wheel drive hybrid powertrain was used with the 308 R Hybrid concept.

The conceptual technology is unlikely to make its way into the 3008, and the plug-in all-wheel drive system has not been developed for performance-led variants.

Respect to Pug:

"For starters, an Audi-style 12.3in digital instrument cluster and an 8.0in touchscreen come as standard on all cars, the cluster being fully customisable via the 3008's standard multi-function steering wheel and every bit as high in resolution as Audi's effort, even if its menus aren't always as obvious to navigate. Interestingly, Peugeot has introduced a BMW-style gear selector on auto models, too, and it looks and feels substantial enough to be convincing."

Ex-colleague of mine fiddled around with his cars Nav. He found a USB port on the back and figured out that it was running a heavily modified version of Android. Installed Waze on there and plugged in a 3G dongle on the USB port and Bob's your uncle, he had Waze running with all of the necessary updates. Just need to recharge the data bundle every now and then.
