2017 Peugeot 3008 (2nd Generation)

Peugeot’s e-3008 and e-5008 SUVs will smash through the 400-mile range barrier

Long Range models are incoming, and they're set to do exactly what they say on the tin...

Peugeot’s biggest electric SUVs - the e-3008 and all-new e-5008 - will both be capable of over 400 miles in ‘Long Range’ spec when they go on sale, likely early next year. Crikey.

That comfortably places them among the longest-range electric cars on sale right now. Again, crikey.

The e-3008 Long Range uses a 233bhp powertrain mated to a 96.3kWh battery, which means 435 miles from full and a 27-minute recharge from 20-80 per cent using a 160 kW DC charger.

Peugeot's mid-size eSUV is already on sale of course, but only with a smaller 73kWh unit (and its piddly 326 miles) until the Long Range comes online.

Which version to get?

You get two versions of the e-3008 as of this article - the FWD 210 (with 157 kW of power) and the FW 230 Long Range (with a more powerful 170 kW motor). Both come in the well spec'd Allure and a higher-end GT trim.

The 210 hp version uses a 73 kWh battery, while the 230 hp model has a 98 kWh battery - a substantial difference. But the price difference is actually quite modest - the 73 kWh model's base trim is €48,650, while the GT is €52,900, the 98 kWh is either €52,650 or €57,200.

73 kWh is more than enough, but we'd choose the more powerful model with the bigger battery even in the Allure package - you get all the kit you'd need and a WLTP range of up to 700 km.

The Allure e-3008 is certainly the better value option. But if you can fit the €5,500 extra in your budget the GT model is not too bad of an upgrade proposition.
