2017 Renault Clio RS

Renault's Biggest Mistake? Is The Clio RS200 EDC Really That Bad? - JayEmm on Cars

Spoton review. They slated this car because it wasnt as "hardcore".... but by today's standards is very dynamic. Also the trophy adressed the steering rack, shift speed, power issues.

Software, downpipe for 3 years now. Monday collecting it from a custom place who is doing a more sophisticated version of the maxton kit from Europe. Going strong. 5 yrs old in march
How much does a service cost for this car?

I had a service plan until Last year. So in the first 3/4 yrs my only expenses was disks and pads (R5k) and accessories belt (R7k)... my next few services will be typical oil/plugs. My next big service probably in 2 yrs/30 000kms time.

Had a dyno evening last night. I insist it's over reading. But I'll take it. My true estimation is closer to 185kw max.
.others on the eve said their readings felt right.

Awesome. At the wheels?

Hey @nazmo , how has your rs220 trophy been? I'm currently in the market for a used one and there's only 2 on sale by 2 different Nissan dealerships in the country. There's a 2018 one with 33k km I'm eyeing but my max budget is R300k and it's going for R334k. How has the EDC been so far, the 1.6l is it Renault's or Nissan's powerplant? How reliable is it? Is it belt driven or chain driven? How much do you spend on maintenance roughly? Just general dependability and reliability of this car. 162kw from a 1.6l engine seems a bit highly strung though but bloody fast for this size and weight.

Funny you post this today :) (ended up being a minor issue)

All jokes aside. The car's been great. its a 2016 (registered 2017), so about 7 yrs old. 90 000kms. Today was the first time it ever went to the workshop, and turned out to be a battery issue (replaced and 30 mins labour to recode something, R600 for labour).

In terms of the engine, bulletproof. its a Nismo engine and 162kw is not strung. im running 190kw+ for 4 yrs now.

There's 2 weakpoints, the hotside boost pipe (plastic) that everyone just replaces with an airtec one. and the TCU (transmission control unit). nothing else really breaks. the TCU can be a pricey fix, but if you looking at a low mileage one you should be fine, just take care of your battery as its sensitive to low amps.

I hammer my car. I track it. never misses a beat. I just make sure oil is up to temp and dont do silly things.

R300k should get you a decent one. they trying their luck. I paid R355k for a 8k kms demo model that was a few months old in 2017.

Heres a vid of my dyno:

That's quite impressive from that Nismo powerplant to reliably put out 195kW from 1.6l. How hard and expensive is it to get the oem fitted tyres? 205/40R18 seems to be an unusual tyre size. I won't be modding it, at least not the 1st 3 years of ownership. I hear Renault suggests 10k km oil change intervals which is a good thing. Anyway enjoy your rs220, I hope to join the ever smiling club of enthusiasts soon with this pocket rocket. The one I'm actually looking at is the R.S18 F1 edition

So pretty much everyone fits 225 tires, PS4/PS5. its actually more comfortable and way cheaper.
The service interaval for RS cars is 10 000kms yes. and i think thats a great idea, i dont care how reliable you think your car is. if its boosted/high performance, 10k kms oil changes.

keep me posted, if you have any questions let me know.

Thanks for sharing. Is this better or worse than the OE setup, money wise?

So full OE set with pads is R21k (the backs are very expensive as they have hubs)
This is R18500 all round disks and pads and fluid

Scary how expensive anchors are these days! Understandably, this is a crucial part of the vehicle so we can't cut corners. What brake pads did you get, and which shop did the job?

My Swift Sport will be due for brakes soon. I can't decide between the full OE set (Nissin pads + discs) @R15k installed vs EBC greenstuff or Ultimax 2 (+ EBC OE replacement discs) @ ~R14k before installation. Most of my driving is on the street commuting from A to B with occasional fast road driving, hence the choice of pads listed above.

I got yellow stuff. its a "spirited daily pad and occasional track use" but i thin kyou can probably go greenstuff, your car is lighter too. do you have the newer turbo one or the NA 1600 one? i really like those, tempted to testdrive the new one and have a new daily, keep the clio as a project car
