Renault Koleos UK specs confirmed as order books open
New Mazda CX-5 rival is priced from £27,500; first deliveries due this summer
Renault has confirmed the full UK specifications for its Koleos SUV which can be ordered in Britain now priced from £27,500.
The Mazda CX-5 rival is available in two trim levels - Dynamique S and Signature Nav - with the top-of-the-range Koleos costing £34,200, edging it into Audi Q5 territory.
The most frugal and cheapest Koleos uses a dCi 130 engine, a 1.6-litre with six-speed manual transmission and two-wheel drive which gives fuel economy of 57.6mpg and CO2 emissions of 128g/km.
The other is the 2.0-litre dCi 175 with a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic X-Tronic transmission and four-wheel drive. This engine develops 280lb ft of torque at 2,000rpm. When equipped with the X-Tronic gearbox, the dCi 175 Koleos can go from 0-62mph in 9.5sec.
Unlike the Mégane, Renault won't offer a hybrid model Koleos further down the line.
The Koleos is built on the CMF C/D platform which is shared with the Nissan X-Trail, as well as larger Renault-Nissan models, including Renault’s Espace, Kadjar and Talisman, and the Nissan Qashqai.

Should I buy one?
The Koleos is not a hallowed disruptor to the SUV segment and Renault admits it won’t outsell the Captur and Kadjar. Rather, the Koleos conforms to many of the usual – and positive – traits of cars in this class.
Spacious, well equipped and nice to look at, it’s not especially memorable to drive but it’s useful off road. This range-topper is very expensive, though, and makes it hard to recommend over rivals. The real value is at the lower end of the line-up.

Renault has added a new range-topping variant called the Initiale Paris to its Koleos SUV line-up, giving the car a trim level to compete with more premium rivals.
The Mazda CX-5 rival is priced from £27,500 in Dynamique S form, while Signature Nav variants start from £29,800. But the pair of trim levels are now joined by the £36,700 Initiale Paris model, which edges the car into Audi Q5 territory.

Renault claims excellent rear-seat knee room of 289mm. Boot space is 458 litres compared with the X-Trail's 550 litres. Overall, the Koleos is 4672mm long with a wheelbase of 2705mm.
Four-wheel-drive models have three driving modes: Auto, Lock and 2WD. They also have ground clearance of 210mm; the same as the X-Trail.
With a kerbweight of 1650kg, the Koleos has a towing capability of 2000kg.
Three trim levels - Dynamique S Nav, Signature Nav and Intiale Paris - are offered. The entry-level Dynamique S Nav includes dual-zone climate control, four USB ports, a DAB radio and sat-nav, as well as a 7.0in infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring and Bluetooth. Outside, the Koleos gets 18in alloys and heated, folding door mirrors as well as roof bars.
Cars in Signature Nav trim get 19in alloys, full LED headlights, heated front seats and a larger, 8.7in touchscreen. It also gets an automatically opening boot. Options for include a Bose sound system (£600) and brown or grey interior leather (£400).
Top Initiale Paris cars get nappa leather, hands free parking (a £350 option on other models) and a panoramic sunroof as standard.
A wide range of driving assistance systems are available across the Koleos line-up, including automatic emergency braking (AEB), lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, blind spot and safe distance warnings, driver tiredness detection and parking assistance.
The new Koleos is being built at the existing Koleos plant in Busan, South Korea, apart from Chinese-market models which are built at Renault’s plant in Wuhan, China.

Renault SA to launch either updated Kadjar or latest Koleos?
Renault South Africa says that it is currently deliberating over whether to launch the upcoming facelifted Kadjar or the latest Koleos – but seemingly not both.
The local distributor for the Boulogne-Billancourt-based automaker told CARmag.co.za that its corporate team was “currently studying” the two options, adding that a decision was expected to be taken in the fourth quarter of 2018.
While the current Kadjar (which launched locally in April 2016) is still listed on Renault SA’s website, the brand has reportedly been experiencing supply problems, with the last units having been registered back in January 2018.
The Kadjar – which shares its underpinnings with the Nissan Qashqai – is apparently due a facelift later in 2018, with reports suggesting that the updated model will debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.
Meanwhile, the second-generation Koleos was revealed back in 2016, but didn’t make it to South Africa. It shares its platform with the Nissan X-Trail and competes against the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson and Mazda CX-5.

In August 2018, Renault South Africa told CARmag.co.za that it was deliberating over whether to launch the upcoming facelifted Kadjar or the latest Koleos. And now a customer support agent at the local distributor has confirmed that the French brand has opted to go with the latter.
After flagging sales seemingly due to stock issues (the last units were registered locally back in January 2018), the Kadjar has disappeared from Renault SA’s website. A customer support agent confirmed that the crossover is “no longer available in South Africa”, before adding that “we are bringing the Koleos, though”. We’ve asked Renault SA to comment and will update this story once we hear back.
Expected to arrive before the end of 2018, the second-generation, five-seater Koleos was revealed back in 2016. It shares its platform with the Nissan X-Trail and competes against the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson and Mazda CX-5.
Measuring 4 672 mm from nose to rump, the Koleos is a full 222 mm longer than the Kadjar, while at 2 705 mm its wheelbase is 58 mm more generous than that of the Kadjar. Luggage capacity comes in at a claimed 458 litres, while utility space is a useful 1 690 litres.
Although the local engine line-up has yet to be confirmed, in Australia the Koleos is offered with either a (Nissan-developed) naturally aspirated 2,5-litre petrol engine worth 126 kW and 226 N.m or a 2,0-litre turbodiesel unit churning out 130 kW and 380 N.m. In that market, all derivatives employ a continuously variable transmission, feeding the front wheels in the case of the petrol and all four in the case of the oil-burner.
However, the SA-spec Koleos could also be offered with the naturally aspirated 2,0-litre and 1,6 turbodiesel currently doing duty alongside the 2,5-litre in the local X-Trail range.
