Pricing! Suzuki Swift and Ignis ranges gain new special-edition variants

Suzuki Auto South Africa has added special-edition variants to its Swift and Ignis ranges. The local arm of the Japanese firm says the new models have been introduced to celebrate the brand’s recent sales success.

Three new derivatives have been added to the mix: the Swift 1,2 GL SE, the Ignis 1,2 GL SE and the Ignis 1,2 GLX SE. Each employs Suzuki’s naturally aspirated 1,2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 61 kW and 113 N.m to the front axle via a five-speed manual gearbox.

Priced at R193 900 (or some R12 000 more than the variant on which it is based), the Swift 1,2 GL SE gains model-specific decals (including stripes on the bonnet and tailgate), a blue rear roof spoiler, blue side-mirror caps, door visors, a door-sill guard and a new front grille with blue trim.

Inside, the special-edition hatchback upgrades to a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Suzuki SA will offer the Swift 1,2 GL SE in either Arctic White or Silky Silver exterior paint, with 50 units of each hue available.

And the Ignis 1,2 GL SE? Well, this derivative is priced at R186 400 (some R6 000 more than the standard GL) and gains black door cladding, door visors, mud flaps, red trim on the grille and red body decals on the flanks. It will likewise be available in Arctic White and Silky Silver, with just 25 examples of each set to hit the local market.

The Ignis GLX SE, meanwhile, comes in at R212 400 (an increase of R10 000 over the normal GLX) and is set apart by its white grille surround, centre bar garnish and foglamp bezels. The upgrade also includes door visors, a cheeky rear spoiler and white decals on the body (with the final product thus ending up looking exactly like our recent long-termer).

Some 50 units of the Ignis GLX SE will be offered in South Africa, each finished in Tinsel Blue with white highlights.

Suzuki spices up Swift and Ignis with new special editions

Suzuki South Africa is adding some spice to its compact hatch range with the release of three special editions based on the Swift GL as well as the Ignis GL and GLX models.

The Swift 1.2 GL SE, as it is abbreviated, gains a touchscreen infotainment system with CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as a number of unique exterior features. These include a new honeycomb grille, blue rear roof spoiler, unique decals (including racing stripes), door visors and a door sill guard.

The Swift GL SE is available in Arctic White and Silky Silver exterior colours and there is an exclusivity factor here as only 50 of them will be sold, at a price of R193 900. This makes it R12 000 more expensive than the regular GL, by the way.

On the Ignis front, the cheaper option is a 1.2 GL SE model, which receives a red garnish for the front grille as well as red side body decals, black door cladding, door visors and a rigid mud flap set. This car retails for R186 400, which is a R6000 premium over the standard GL.

The Ignis GL SE is available in the same silver and white hues as the Swift SE, with numbers limited to 25.

Fresh look for Suzuki Ignis

Suzuki has released official images of its Japanese-spec 2020 Ignis ahead of the unveiling of the new-look budget car/small crossover in India, where the cars which are sold in South Africa are produced. We believe the facelifted version could be heading for Mzansi soon…

Late last year, Cars.co.za reported Suzuki South Africa had introduced special editions of its Ignis and Swift, the former in 1.2 GL and 1.2 GLX guises, to the market. And now that a facelifted version is coming, it makes sense that the Japanese firm sweetened the deal on pre-facelift derivatives before the 2020-spec cars went into production.

Although we haven’t seen the new look Indian-spec Ignis, Suzuki has published these images of its JDM model, replete with a new grille design with 4 four vertical chrome slots that replace the previous version’s horizontal bar. It's been reported that this grille treatment will feature on all derivatives.

Suzuki's Ignis gets a midlife nip and tuck

Suzuki has revealed the facelifted version of its plucky little Ignis crossover hatch.

Although the version that you see here is the Japanese market variant, the Indian-spec Maruti Suzuki Ignis that will inevitably make its way to South Africa is set to be revealed this Thursday, February 7, at the Auto Expo 2020. Besides a few trim differences, global versions are unlikely to differ too radically.

So what’s new?

The most notable change is the new four-slot grille that takes some inspiration from the Jimny and Vitara. It gives the car a more muscular appearance, as does the redesigned rear bumper.

Suzuki is also offering a new spec grade for those seeking an even more SUV-like look, this variant receiving a unique front bumper with a skid plate, roof rails, wheel arch mouldings and a rear bumper that’s partially painted silver. Inside, the new spec grade is set apart by synthetic leather seat trim as well as khaki and gunmetal accent colours. Suzuki has also thrown in a new body colour called ‘Tough Khaki Pearl Metallic’ to match.

Suzuki Ignis gains new styling and powertrain for 2020

Boxy city car claimed to offer improved efficiency with the aid of a CVT gearbox and revamped engine

Suzuki’s quirky Ignis city car has undergone a mid-life facelift, gaining subtle design tweaks and a new mild hybrid powertrain option.

The Fiat 500 rival, launched in 2016, retains its boxy overall silhouette, flared wheel arches and compact footprint, but gains a new five-spoke front grille that brings it into line with the Jimny SUV.
