I thought long and hard about diesel. The fuel has (wrongly) attracted the ire of the enviroloons in governments, so it's on the way out. Ordered the petrol model.

ComfortLine 1.4 automatic with options (leather seats, towbar, sunroof, etc, etc). Not used to waiting for a car so have already lost interest ... but the wife is patient.Awesome. What spec & options did you opt for![]()
Optional extras include a panoramic sunroof, an electrically detachable towbar, an LED headlamps package, a head-up display, parallel parking assistance, active info display, adaptive cruise control, the popular R-Line exterior package and more.
Typical SA all the tech is optional extra:-
I got mine! 2.0 TDI manual R line with leather, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, electric tailgate, LED driving lights, park assist and the 6.5" radio.
Aaaaaand? Don't leave us hanging like that. What are your first impressions?

I think you will be very happy. When is your expected delivery date? Thanks for this. I also ordered App Connect even though a Windows Mobile app doesn't yet exist. I expect one to appear at some point.
Glad to hear the cabin is quiet. I ordered without even a test drive.
3-6 months from order+deposit in mid-Feb.
I'm completely in love, I thought I would have buyer's remorse by now. I only have the 81kw, but it is fine for the mostly city driving I do. I have read that it improves after the first 2000km. It is lighter and more refined than the previous version, even though it is larger. There is virtually no cabin noise even though it is a diesel. It is definitely worth it to upgrade from the previous model. The electric tailgate is a must in my opinion, unfortunately we don't seem to get the foot-swipe version of it in South Africa. I originally wanted to get the Oryx white, but changed my mind after seeing the Tungsten silver in real life.
The only thing bothering me at this point is that App-connect for Android is not available in South Africa yet and since it was not included in my car originally, it will be R4000 to add.

Thank you.Congrats, that looks really nice. You must now just have your windows tinted. Looks hot in that colour.
Thank you.
Yes, on the list of things to do. VW wanted to charge me R4000. We have a friend who owns a smash and grab business who can do it for R800 (he does fitments for dealers and did my previous cars, no quality issues). Will post pics again when it's done.
If you don't mind me asking, why did you take it in manual? Nothing available in auto?
I cannot begin to express my frustration right now.
I am writing this hoping that someone at VW has the courtesy to take accountability and resolve our problems.
I purchased the new VW Tiguan in November 2016 from VW The Glen. Two weekends ago I left home and a km away the car just stalled and reverted to the 1st gear. The revs were high and the car was not changing gears. Switched it off and on and it did the same.
We alerted VW assist and they came and towed our brand new vehicle away. Needless to say the embarrassment we faced as neighbors enquired about a new car being towed away.
My husband and I eagerly waited for someone to contact us with the diagnostics. No one did. We were not even sure if our vehicle arrived at VW Bryanston or stolen. My husband on his own expense had to the call a number of times before getting assistance. We were asked to lodge our complaint with customer care Which we did efficiently. We were then told that further assessments need to be made on the vehicle and they will let us know. About 6 working days had passed and VW was still enquiring if the part they needed was in the country or not. They were apparently still gathering information. Every call thereafter became another fruitless engagement as no one was able to give us proper timelines and diagnosis.
We requested for a courtesy vehicle and were told that they do not guarantee mobility and there is waiting list.
That is funny because the only reason I purchased the vehicle was for mobility.
And as a consequence of a below standard vehicle (that is costing us close to a million) breaking down within 4 months is the reason I a immobile. Take accountability for that as a brand!
Eventually we were told that a part called megatronics is needed to be ordered from Germany which will take another 15 working days. Firstly how does a brand new vehicle now need new parts and secondly VW won't consider this their responsibility to make sure I am mobile for the next three weeks??
What standard of vehicles is VW selling ?
I am supposed to pay for a car which I won't have for a month.
The least you could do is make sure I have a courtesy vehicle.
Instead we are told there's waiting lists and 'I don't want to fight with you' by case manager Earl Fransch.
Ofcourse you have no grounds to fight with me. I am the one whose fighting as I am the one whose made an investment in a dysfunctional vehicle.
Also is the waiting lists so long because you have a trail of customers complaining about their broken down vehicles?
I am highly irate to say the least and will be posting on various social media channels to encourage consumers to boycott the VW brand.
The Tiguan has been voted family car of the year but it is not reliable ? Ironic don't you think?
I challenge the authorities at VW to change my negative perception and buying experience.
How about the new Hyundai Creta?Scary story that.
What's the alternative? My wife wants a little crossover. We checked out everything in that category and the Tig came out tops. Now you've got me worried.
