A car that size with a 1.4t.... I'm still not convinced. My golf 1.4tsi DSG is noticeably slower with a couple passengers.

Lovely car, mates wife has the 2t.

New VW Tiguan flagship for SA! Here’s how much…

Volkswagen South Africa has been slowing broadening its local Tiguan range, adding the first TDI derivative to the line-up in November last year. And now an all-wheel-drive diesel model is set to slot in at the very summit of the range.

Dubbed the Volkswagen Tiguan 2,0 TDI 4Motion Highline, this derivative will be priced at R549 500, making it some R7 300 dearer than the 162 kW 2,0 TSI 4Motion Highline variant.

The newcomer’s four-cylinder engine sends 130 kW and 380 N.m to all corners via seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, which allows a quoted 0-100 km/h time of 8,3 seconds. VW claims a combined fuel economy figure of 7,7 L/100 km.

A lower-spec Comfortline derivative – also sporting a 2,0-litre turbodiesel heart and all-wheel drive – has likewise been added to the South African range, priced at R523 800. This model, however, is slightly detuned, with peak outputs of 105 kW and 340 N.m.

These two new variants see the local Tiguan line-up grow to seven models. Last year, Volkswagen SA confirmed to us that it has no plans to add the 176 kW bi-turbo diesel model (dubbed the BiTDI) to its local line-up.

Latest: Volkswagen Tiguan (2016) Specs and Pricing in SA

Volkswagen has added two new diesel models to the Tiguan range, including a high-powered 4Motion model.

The Tiguan range is starting to look complete now that Volkswagen SA has added 2 diesel engines to its model lineup. The turbodiesel models are now available to customers in South Africa.

In Comfortline specification (the Tiguan's middle choice of equipment lines) you can have a 2.0-litre 81 kW/250 Nm unit with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The sporty R-Line kit can also be added to this model at an additional R20k. If you want an automatic (DSG) then you'll have to opt for the 4Motion (all-wheel-drive) models. The 2.0-litre engine with DSG is beefed up to produce 105 kW and 340 Nm of torque.

The top-spec turbodiesel model is only available in Highline trim level, but it has even more power with 130 kW and 350 Nm of torque as used in the Passat. Again, it will use the 7-speed DSG gearbox and 4Motion.

With the arrival of the new diesel derivatives, Volkswagen South Africa expects the bulk of its Tiguan sales to be diesel models.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace SUV - new engine details

The stretched, seven-seat-optional Volkswagen Tiguan gets a choice of six four-cylinder engines and is likely to cost from around £26,000

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace will be sold with the choice of six Euro 6 compatible four-cylinder engines when UK sales of the stretched second-generation SUV get underway following its European debut at the Geneva motor show.

Included among the launch line-up for the new Volkswagen model, which offers seating for up to seven, will be three petrol and three diesel engines ranging in output from 148bhp though to 236bhp.

Volkswagen’s 148bhp turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol unit kicks off proceedings in an entry level 1.4 TSI featuring Active Cylinder Management that sees it return 47mpg on the combined European test cycle for average CO2 emissions of 135g/km. It is accompanied by a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with either 177bhp or 216bhp in the 2.0 TSI.

On the diesel side, Volkswagen’s widely used turbocharged 2.0-litre engine provides the Tiguan Allspace 2.0 TDI with either 148bhp, 178bhp or 236bhp. All the diesels are equipped with an SCR catalytic converter and a 12 litre AdBlue tank to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions.

The 148bhp 1.4 TSI and 148bhp 2.0 TDI are both sold as standard with front-wheel drive, although the latter can be optioned with Volkswagen’s 4Motion four wheel drive system, which comes as standard on all other Tiguan Allspace models.

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is a longer and larger variant of the Tiguan mid-sized SUV and was first revealed at the Detroit motor show.

There is 215mm added to the overall length of the Tiguan including 110mm added to the wheelbase which allows the interior to accommodate an extra row of two seats or an additional 115 litres of boot space, according to Volkswagen.

VW SA expands Tiguan range to seven derivatives…

Last month, we revealed pricing for the new Volkswagen Tiguan 2,0 TDI 4Motion Highline, the flagship in the brand’s local Tiguan range.

And now the local arm of the Wolfsburg automaker has officially launched its expanded, seven-strong line-up.

New engines include the 2,0 TDI, offered in either 81 kW/280 N.m or 130 kW/380 N.m form, as well as the 2,0 TSI petrol engine (yes, that’s the same unit used in the outgoing Golf GTI), which makes 162 kW/350 N.m. The high-powered engines – the 105 kW/340 N.m 2,0 TDI, the 130 kW 2,0 TDI and the 162 kW 2,0 TSI – all come with VW’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system as standard.

These 4Motion models also each boast 10 mm extra ground clearance (201 mm rather than the 191 mm of the front-wheel-drive models). In addition, the Tiguan can be ordered with an “off-road package” that includes a specific front end improving the approach angle from 18,3 degrees to 25,6 degrees. All models feature a departure angle of 24,7 degrees and ramp angle of 20 degrees.

Optional extras include a panoramic sunroof, an electrically detachable towbar, an LED headlamps package, a head-up display, parallel parking assistance, active info display, adaptive cruise control, the popular R-Line exterior package and more.

Last year, Volkswagen SA confirmed to us that it has no plans to add the 176 kW bi-turbo diesel model (dubbed the BiTDI) to its local line-up.

All models come with a three-year or 120 000 km warranty and a five-year or 90 000 km service plan (with intervals of 15 000 km).
