New VW Tiguan: here's how much you'll pay in SA...
The new Volkswagen Tiguan is due to be launched in South Africa in October, but we’ve already managed to lay our hands on official pricing.
Initially, the second-generation Tiguan – which runs on the German brand’s MQB platform – will be offered locally in three derivatives, each fitted with the Wolfsburg automaker’s familiar 1,4-litre TSI engine (albeit in two states of tune).
The base Trendline model, which boasts 92 kW and 200 N.m from its four-cylinder turbocharged heart, will be priced at R378 000. The Comfortline derivative, meanwhile, uses the same powertrain (including the six-speed manual gearbox), but has a splash more standard equipment, thus coming in at R419 000.
The most expensive model – initially at least – comes in the form of the Comfortline DSG derivative, which gains a six-speed dual-clutch transmission and perkier peak outputs of 110 kW and 250 N.m. This variant will be priced at R457 680 at launch.
However, Volkswagen SA says a trio of 2,0 TDI engines (worth 81kW, 105kW and 130kW) and as well the 162 kW 2,0 TSI model (which borrows its unit from the Golf GTI) will be added to the local line-up in the final quarter of 2016. So, for the time being at least, it seems the 2,0 TDI biturbo unit (worth 176 kW and 500 N.m) won’t be offered in SA.
Two of the diesel models (the 105 kW and 130 kW versions) and the 162 kW petrol derivative will be fitted with Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system as standard.
The R-Line exterior styling package will also be optionally available (although not on the base Trendline model), while a five-year or 90 000 km service plan (with intervals of 15 000 km) and a three-year or 120 000 km warranty will form part of the package.
