DS Automobiles integrates ChatGPT into its cars, delivers next-level speech recognition

AI and language models are all the craze lately, in large part due to ChatGPT's public launch earlier this year. Now DS Automobiles, which is under Stellantis' umbrella, beat everyone to the punch and announced the first ChatGPT integration in vehicles. It enables voice control and natural conversation with the chatbot.

DS is making ChatGPT available for its entire range of cars DS 3, DS 4, DS 7 and DS 9 as long as they have the so-called DS IRIS SYSTEM package on board. After receiving the update, customers can say "OK IRIS" out loud or press the action button on the steering wheel and start a conversation with a ChatGPT-powered assistant. The said assistant can complete tasks, engage in conversation and even give up-to-date information on various topics.

First look at crucial DS No7 SUV

New video reveals No7 to be boxier counterpart to No8; due later this year

DS has published the first images of its forthcoming No7 family SUV and they indicate that it will effectively serve as a more conventional counterpart to the rakish No8 flagship.

A video posted by DS design director Thierry Métroz shows a digital rendering of the No7 in camouflage, revealing it to share several key design cues with the No8, such as headlights with three main projector beams.

The rear end of the No7 is not shown in the video, but it is also likely to mirror the No8, barring the extended rear window and higher roofline.

It will be underpinned by the same DS-specific variant of the STLA Medium platform used by the No8, which offers single- and dual-motor electric powertrains with as much as 345bhp and electric ranges of up to 466 miles. The No7’s range is likely to be compromised slightly by its boxier shape, but it should still comfortably tip the 400-mile mark.

Inside, it is expected to be all but identical to the No8 up front, with the same quirky aluminium dashboard panel and wide range of material choices. In the rear, the higher roofline should bring improved second-row comfort, as well as more boot space than the No8’s 560 litres. It is possible that the No7 could also offer a small third row, given this is an option in the closely related Peugeot 5008.

Out goes the DS 7, and in comes the new No7. Not a perfume, but a small SUV

Go on, be a bit different. Everyone and their neighbour covets a BMW X1 or Audi Q3 or Mercedes GLA. DS’s answer is this: the new No7. Not an expensive parfum, but a compact SUV that replaces the old, left-field DS 7.

It’s as tall and fat as before, but “follows the market trend” by being a smidgen longer. And because it’s a ‘premium’ car, it carries with it premium trappings. Like an admittedly very classy design that takes in an illuminated grille and sparkly headlights, the ‘LIGHT BLADE’ at the back, contrast black roof, posh colours like ‘silk green’ and ‘topaz blue’ (among others), and 21in wheels.

Wheels that’ll travel up to 460 miles if you spec the rangiest of the three electric ‘E-Tense’ DS No7s being offered at launch. It’s called the FWD Long Range and gets a 97.2kWh battery made in France and bolted into the floor, a single electric motor up front, and 242bhp (or 276bhp with boost).

There’s a twin-motor AWD Long Range that gets the same battery, a slightly diminished 422 miles, and a juicier 345bhp (or 370bhp with boost). Amusingly, with that boost engaged, this version can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 5.4s. That’s… rapid.

French car maker DS showed off today its newest creation - the DS No7. This vehicle is the direct replacement for the older DS 7, which was the brand's most popular model. The company hopes the new SUV will help it sell many more electric cars in the future. The No7 looks like a standard SUV, but it has some very French touches inside and out.

The DS No7 is a bit bigger than the car it replaces: it measures 4.66 m long, which is 7 cm longer than before. Most of that extra space is between the wheels, giving people sitting in the back more legroom. The car is 1.90 m wide and 1.63 m high. Even with its tall shape, it is very good at cutting through the air thanks to a drag coefficient of Cd 0.26.

Range is the most important thing for many people buying EVs, and DS answers that need with a 97.2 kWh battery in the Long Range version. This big battery allows the No7 to travel up to 740 km before it needs to plug in again. That is a decent distance for a medium-sized SUV. Even on the highway at fast speeds, DS says the car can still go about 450 km.

If you do not need that much range, there is a smaller battery option. It has 73.7 kWh of energy that gives the No7 up to 543 km of range. Both versions use a front-wheel-drive motor. The smaller battery model has 230 horsepower, while the bigger one has 245 horsepower. If you want more speed, you can pick the all-wheel-drive version. It has two motors that together deliver 350 horsepower, with a momentary "boost" bringing that number up to 375 horsepower. This version hits 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.

The DS No7 can charge at speeds up to 160kW. If you find a fast charger, you can add 190 km of range in about 10 minutes. It takes roughly 27 to 31 minutes to go from 20% to 80% power. The car also has a V2L feature that lets you plug regular electronics, like a laptop or a coffee maker, directly into the car's charging port to use its battery power.

The inside of the DS No7 looks like a posh lounge - there's a 16-inch touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard, and a 10-inch screen for the driver. DS even put ChatGPT into the system so you can talk to the car. The seats appear to be very soft and use memory foam to keep you comfortable. You can even get seats that massage you or blow warm air on your neck.
