Mountune upgrades Ford Fiesta ST we can't have
As you no doubt already know, the latest Ford Fiesta ST is not destined for South Africa. And now, as if to rub yet more salt into the wound, the British folks over at Mountune have released their take on the little hot hatch.
Dubbed the “m225 package”, the upgrade has been launched alongside the mTune Smartflash app, which allows users (via a supplied Bluetooth OBD interface) to install and update vehicle calibrations from their smartphone.
In standard form, the turbocharged 1,5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine in the Fiesta ST makes 147 kW and 290 N.m. But with Mountune’s kit, those figures rise to 165 kW and 340 N.m, the latter delivered earlier and across a wider rev-range. The package cuts the hatchback’s claimed zero to 100 km/h from 6,5 seconds to “below the six-second mark”, according to the tuner.
In addition to the ECU upgrade, the package includes a high-flow induction kit as well as subtle Mountune exterior badging. Three distinct calibrations are offered with the m225 upgrade: a performance mode (delivering the previously mentioned power and torque increases alongside a more aggressive launch control strategy and enhanced exhaust output), a stock mode and an anti-theft mode (the latter “fully immobilising” the vehicle).

Ford releases UK-exclusive special edition with unique paint, extra kit and lower coilover suspension
Ford has announced a Performance Edition of its third-generation Fiesta ST to celebrate a year since the first examples of the model hit UK roads.
The Fiesta ST Performance Edition is available only in a unique Deep Orange hue and gets extra Ford Performance parts, including 18in alloy wheels that are 7kg lighter than those of the standard car.
But the big selling point is the chassis changes, with the Performance Edition receiving a bespoke suspension set-up: a coilover pack with stainless steel damper housing and Ford Performance Blue springs.
This means that the Performance Edition is lower than the standard ST by 15mm at the front and 10mm at the rear. Owners can also fine-tune their ride, since the suspension has 12 bump settings and 16 rebound settings for manual adjustments. Ford says the car has been tested at the Nürburgring, too.
Inside, the Performance Edition is based on ST-3 specification – the highest of the standard ST. This means a Bang & Olufsen sound system, usually a £350 extra, is included, as well as LED headlights, a bespoke Quaife limited-slip differential, launch control and shift indicators.
In order to keep the model as exclusive as possible, only 600 units will be built, all for the UK. To put that into perspective, more than 5000 examples of the standard ST have been sold here since its launch last summer.

Should I buy one?
This car is routinely our favourite hot hatchback, almost regardless of price and even without these modifications. Which is where the price comes into it, and the law of diminishing returns.
The £3120 increase a double-figure hike over a Fiesta ST-3 with Performance Pack, and more again on an ST-2. I guess there’s appeal to having the authentic real deal, especially as it comes with unique paint and wheels and in limited numbers, but if it were my heard-earned, I might be inclined to make do with the terrific standard car, or have a bit of a play with some aftermarket dampers and springs as my own project. But don’t let that take anything away from what is the best small hot hatch, made better.

I'm a couple days from taking delivery of a second hand one myself. A 2016 model, so I have one service left and about a year left on the warrantySince the new model won't be coming to SA, would buying the "outgoing" model be a reasonable thing to do?
If so, what should I look out for when looking at 2nd hand specimens? Unless 2nd hand is a dumb idea

New upgrade package includes power and torque boost for latest version of hot hatch
Ford tuning specialist Mountune has developed its most powerful tuning upgrade yet for the Fiesta ST, raising the output of the hot hatch to 232bhp.
The firm’s new m235 kit, which costs £575 including VAT, offers an extra 10bhp from the previous M225 upgrade and gives the 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine an extra 35bhp from unmodified versions. It also boosts the Fiesta’s peak torque to 258lb ft, compared with the official 214lb ft of the standard version.
Alec Pell-Johnson, Mountune’s performance chief, claimed the kit “delivers both significant performance and driver enjoyment”.
As well as upgrading the output of the Fiesta ST engine, the modifications include developments to boost usability and performance, while ensuring the car retains the feel of an official manufacturer model. No-limit shift optimisation is included as part of the kit calibration, which combines with the firm’s established enhanced exhaust overrun function.
