2018 Honda Amaze

Honestly very happy with my amaze CVT but wish the 1.5l version was available in SA. The fuel economy for city driving is not that different so i would rather have the power.

Upgrades for Honda’s Amazing sedan

Could the diesel, come to South Africa? Nope, definitely not.

Honda has given its most affordable sedan an upgrade.

The evolved Amaze has debuted in India and features a host of cosmetic and cabin functionality improvements.

Honda has done the expected and integrated new daytime running LEDs to the front of the Amaze, while the taillights are reshaped into a C-pattern.

The cabin sees silver satin trim and a new infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen and integration of both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Convenience is improved on the VX-grade Amaze, with keyless entry and engine starting, while all variants get dual airbags, ABS but no mention of ESP.

Engines are Honda’s 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre turbodiesel.

The smaller engine is good for 66 kW and 110 Nm. It drives the front wheels via a manual or CVT transmission.

What will be of particular interest to South African Honda followers is that 1.5-litre turbodiesel. When configured with the manual gearbox option, the new Amaze turbodiesel draws upon 73 kW of power and 200 Nm of torque.

2021 Honda Amaze Facelift : A Close Look - Team-BHP

The Honda Amaze is on sale in India at a price of between Rs. 6.32 - 11.15 lakhs (all-India).

Honda Amaze Pros

• An all-rounded compact sedan with well-priced petrol variants
• Spacious & practical interiors
• Diesel + CVT combination is unbeatable! Indisputably the segment best & smoothest
• Suspension offers comfortable ride quality with neutral on-road behaviour
• Features such as cruise control, paddle shifts (petrol AT), LED projector headlamps etc.
• 3-year unlimited km warranty, extendable to 5-years / unlimited km and Honda's unique 10-year Any Time warranty

Honda Amaze Cons

• Diesel + CVT combo no longer available in the mid "S" variant. Diesel CVT VX is expensive!
• Diesel's NVH is just okay, it's not high-rpm friendly & carries a 2-lakh price premium!
• Petrol CVT is fair within the city, but rather mediocre on the highway
• Look closely and you'll find a few faults in part quality, fit and finish (uncool for a Honda)
• Tall rear passengers will find headroom to be insufficient & the fixed headrests useless
• The 175 mm tyres are too thin, while the 35-liter fuel tank is too small

Honda Amaze facelift lands in South Africa – pricing and features

Having set a new standard for small sedans in South Africa with the introduction of the Honda Amaze in 2018, the Japanese manufacture says that it has upped the ante once more with a number of changes and upgrades that will see the product find further favour with local buyers.

Changes include improved exterior styling, modifications to the interior and a new infotainment system. The updated Honda Amaze remains largely unchanged with a new front grille, which replaces the previous “solid-wing” version. Viewed from the side, the standard alloy wheels are a visual highlight, while also reducing unsprung mass. A shoulder line running from the headlamps to the taillamp clusters highlight the Amaze’s flanks while a broad sill contributes to the sedan’s look.

The roofline is smooth and curved and flows into an integrated, raised rear deck, which is accentuated by the notched C-pillar. The rear view is now dominated by a revised bumper with a new chrome accent and LED taillamps.

The Amaze 1,2 Trend, at R209 100, is only available with a manual gearbox. This derivative boasts a new full-black interior upholstery. The list includes a tilt-adjustable multifunction steering wheel, a four-speaker audio system featuring FM/AM and MP3 functionality, Bluetooth connectivity, central locking and electrically adjustable exterior mirrors.

Moving a step up on the line-up ladder is the 1,2 Comfort with manual transmission at R234 700, followed by the the 1,2 Comfort CVT at R252 800.

Both Comfort models still sport colour-coded exterior mirrors and door handles and low-mounted, recessed fog lamps as standard. However, now differentiating them from the lesser Trend model are 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and LED fog lights at the front. These features are in addition to a roof-mounted shark fin antenna, and a high-mounted third brake light that have been carried over from the previous model.

Honda Amaze compact sedan gets new look, enhanced spec for 2022

The Honda Amaze is one of Mzansi’s most affordable sedans, and the compact four door has just been given a facelift and spec enhancement for the 2022 model year.

Upfront we see a new grille with dual slats, while the back end receives a revised bumper with a new chrome accent and LED taillights. There’s also a new exterior colour option called Meteoroid Grey, which joins the current Radiant Red, Lunar Silver and Platinum White hues.

Inside you’ll find upgraded cloth seats, featuring a new grey cloth upholstery, replacing the hideous beige trim that was imposed on the previous model by the factory in India, and which Honda SA previously compensated for by fitting seat covers as standard.

On the spec front, the range-topping comfort model gains a new 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with a reverse camera as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

As before Honda offers two trim grades. The base model is called Trend, and it packs a traditional four-speaker audio system with Bluetooth connectivity as well as manual air conditioning, central locking, electric windows and 15-inch alloy wheels.

After sales support comes in the form of a five-year/200 000km warranty and a two-year/30 000km service plan.

South African buyers are not particularly fond of beige interiors and Honda has heeded customer feedback and rather opted for a full-black interior for the Amaze.

New Honda Amaze: what does the teaser reveal?
The teaser partially shows the new Amaze’s front profile. The overall look seems to mimic newer Honda models, like the Civic sold abroad. The headlamps are much slimmer than the outgoing model’s and have angular edges. Higher variants will continue to get LED projector headlights. It also gets LED daytime running lights at the top of the headlamp unit that neatly merges into the grille. A wide chrome bar runs atop the headlamp and the grille, stretching from end to end. The new hexagonal grille is now much larger and gets a honeycomb pattern with a large Honda logo sitting bang in the centre. The bumper has large air dam recesses at each corner, which may get darkened inserts.

New Honda Amaze ‘under consideration’ for SA

After the new Honda Amaze’s official reveal in India, the Japanese firm’s local division has confirmed the small sedan is “under consideration” for South Africa…

The new Honda Amaze is under consideration for South Africa, according to the Japanese firm’s local division, with the freshly revealed 3rd generation of the diminutive sedan looking likely to touch down at some point next year.

Yes, Honda Motor Southern Africa confirmed to Cars.co.za that the new Amaze is “under consideration” for a local introduction, adding that it would “advise early 2025 on launch timing”. We’re confident this new model will launch locally considering that the outgoing version is the brand’s top seller, year to date.

Officially unwrapped in India, the new Amaze features front-end styling that brings it neatly in line with models such as the likewise Indian-built Elevate. Though it’s billed as an all-new model, plenty seems to carry over from the outgoing version.

For instance, the small sedan again measures 3 995 mm long, while its wheelbase is unchanged at 2 470 mm (though the little saloon is slightly wider and taller than before). Interestingly, however, Honda’s Indian division lists a luggage capacity of 416 litres, which is slightly down on the 420-litre claim for the outgoing model.

Honda's redesigned Amaze compact sedan launching in South Africa this week

Honda’s heavily updated Amaze compact sedan arrives in South Africa this week, sporting a bolder look and smarter cabin.

It goes up against the newly launched Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Grand i10 sedan and Kia Pegas in a segment that has become somewhat sidelined by SUVs and hatchbacks.

Pricing for the new Honda Amaze will be announced shortly, but it is expected to start below the R300,000 mark.

For 2025, the compact sedan gains a more confident exterior design, with highlights including a large honeycomb grille reminiscent of the latest Honda CR-V and a more elegant rear section with horizontal taillamps that forge a close family resemblance to the latest Ballade.

Honda’s modern DNA is further evident inside, where we see a new dashboard that takes inspiration from the latest Civic and CR-V. The cockpit features a strong horizontal design theme, largely thanks to a full length air vent bar, and the tech package includes an 8.0-inch ‘floating’ infotainment screen.

The local features list remains under wraps, but in its home market of India the Amaze offers new features such as wireless phone charging.

Honda Amaze (2025) Price & Specs

The new Honda Amaze has arrived in South Africa, ready to pick up where its predecessor left off last year as the brand’s top seller. Here’s what this diminutive sedan costs…

The new Honda Amaze has officially touched down in South Africa, with the local line-up again comprising a trio of derivatives. This 3rd-generation small sedan’s new front-end styling brings it neatly in line with siblings such as the likewise Indian-built Elevate.

Though it’s billed as an all-new model, plenty appears to carry over from the outgoing version. For instance, this diminutive sedan again measures 3 995 mm long, while its wheelbase is unchanged at 2 470 mm (though the little saloon is slightly wider and taller than before). The luggage capacity, meanwhile, is 416 litres, down slightly on the 420-litre claim for the outgoing model.

In addition, the newcomer employs the same powertrain as before, with the naturally aspirated 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine again sending 66 kW and 110 Nm to the front wheels via either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Fuel economy is listed as 5.5 L/100 km (a marginal improvement) regardless of the chosen transmission.

So, what does it cost in South Africa? Well, we can confirm that the Amaze 1.2 Trend 5MT starts at R254 900. For the record, that represents a relatively modest R1 300 premium over the outgoing entry-level derivative of the same name.

The Amaze 1.2 Comfort 5MT comes in at R274 900 (up R2 900), while the Amaze 1.2 Comfort CVT again tops the range, now priced at R294 900 (an increase of R2 500). While the 2nd-gen model shipped with a 2-year/30 000 km service plan, the new model has had this arrangement doubled to 4 years or 60 000 km.

The Trend grade includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (a feature not included on its predecessor), hill-start assist, 15-inch alloy wheels, a reverse-view camera, rear parking sensors, electric windows all round, electrically operated side mirrors, smart keyless entry, automatic air-conditioning, an 8-inch touchscreen (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) and a 4-speaker audio system with Bluetooth.

All-New Honda Amaze Lands in SA – Pricing and Spec

The local compact sedan segment saw the arrival of Suzuki’s Dzire, and less than a week later, Japanese rival Honda launched the Amaze into the country. Here is pricing and specification on the all-new third-generation model.

The all-new Honda Amaze is being launched nationally today. This Indian-built model competes in the sub-four-metre sedan category and features a 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that delivers 66 kW @ 6 000 r/min and 110 N.m @ 4 800 r/min. Either a 7-speed CVT or a 5-speed manual transmission delivers this power to the wheels, both of which achieve a claimed 5.5 L/100 km.

The new model is also founded on a high-tensile steel frame, which is touted to offer enhanced handling and stability, but the interior packaging is where the firm has seen the most of its improvement. Honda claims that the all-new Amaze features best-in-class rear head clearance, rear leg room and boot space with 416 litres available.

Honda Amaze Pricing

During the local press briefing, Honda proudly added that the successor to the MY21 Amaze has only seen a small increase in price. As a reminder, the suggested retail price was R253 600 for the Trend, R272 900 for the Comfort Manual and R292 900 for the Comfort CVT.
