This is the 2019 BMW Z4 Before You're Supposed to See It

Official press photos have been leaked for the upcoming 2019 BMW Z4, all before its official release later this month at the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance. It looks pretty good without all that camouflage!

Leaked photos were first found this morning on the Belgian automotive website Autotijd.be, and more leaked photos have been cropping up as well, including arty overhead shots like this:

2019 BMW Z4: design shown ahead of today's unveiling

After a selection of leaked shots of the new BMW Z4 were leaked online via Instagram recently, official sketches have been posted ahead of the car's Pebble Beach reveal later today.

The new sketches show the car's design in full, albeit exaggerated, and confirm the authenticity of leaked shots from earlier in the month. BMW has also confirmed the existence of a special First Edition car, which is is expected to arrive ahead of the regular production Z4 in March 2019.

Those leaked shots, from an unknown source, quickly spread all over the web after their publishing, showing the Audi TT rival's exterior and interior design. They show that the production roadster takes close inspiration from the original concept, with an exterior featuring a raft of technology inspired by BMW's latest models.

The car in the leaked images is badged M40i, which is expected to be the range-topping Z4 model. A shot of the engine bay confirms it will use a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder unit shared with the M240i, expected to produce about 350bhp.

to me the production Z4 is not that exciting anymore, the front looks boring and the forever the same interior. The back looks a bit interesting thou.

I know BMW needs that model competing with your Audi TT, Merc slks of the world ... But damn this is ugly. A ttrs looks absolutely juicy in comparison. They need to start from scratch with their design on the z4 ... See this model sitting on dealership floors
 
The SLK is also ugly especially the offset screen in the middle...
I think if I am in the market for a roadster, TT would be my choice or push up a bit to get the F-Type.
Pity the F-Type is so pricey, and not much gain in performance

New BMW Z4 roadster officially revealed (in M40i guise)!

The new BMW Z4 roadster has finally been revealed, with the M40i derivative making its debut in “First Edition” guise at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The production version of the open-top two-seater was unveiled at exactly the same location that served as the stage for the debut of the concept in 2017.

BMW says the new model features a low centre of gravity, “perfectly balanced” axle load distribution, wide tracks and a compact wheelbase.

The BMW Z4 M40i First Edition is a limited-edition version of the new roadster, and comes finished in Frozen Orange metallic exterior paint.

It is powered by the Munich-based brand’s turbocharged 3,0-litre straight-six petrol engine, which boasts a peak power output of 250 kW. This M Performance model takes a claimed 4,6 seconds to sprint from a zero to 100 km/h and also features sports suspension with electronically controlled dampers, an M Sport braking system and an electronically controlled M Sport differential in the rear axle transmission.

This new model’s electrically operated soft-top comes finished in anthracite with a silver effect. The BMW Individual high-gloss shadow line package, black side-mirror caps and two-tone 19-inch light alloy wheels are also standard on the First Edition model.

Inside, you’ll find Vernasca black leather trim with decorative stitching, electrically adjustable seats (with a memory function) and a Harman Kardon surround sound system. Adaptive LED headlamps (with matrix function for the high beam) and a head-up display featured are also included.

Interestingly, BMW describes the Z4 M40i First Edition’s premiere as an “exclusive and fascinating foretaste of the forthcoming on-road debut” of the new roadster, adding that it “will announce all details of further engine variants, technical innovations and the diverse equipment features in the third week of September, ahead of a show debut in Paris.

BMW Z4 reborn as 335bhp Porsche 718 Boxster rival

BMW has revealed its new, third-generation Z4, with a renewed focus on driving dynamics to take on the Porsche 718 Boxster.

The new roadster, which has been developed in conjunction with Toyota’s upcoming Supra, made its public debut in the US at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, California, with global sales due to commence later this year.

The Z4 will makes its European debut at the Paris show in September, when BMW intends to reveal more about its mechanical package ahead of right-hand-drive deliveries to the UK in early 2019. The initially revealed model is the flagship M40i M Performance First Edition, which uses a 335bhp turbocharged 3.0-litre straight six petrol engine.

The 718 Boxster rival has been designed and engineered from the ground up in a move aimed at reigniting buyer interest in roadsters in the face of dwindling sales over recent years.


As well as having a completely new look with more distinctive proportions, the new Z4 adopts an electrically operated fabric hood. The new structure is claimed to weigh 60kg less than the folding hard-top arrangement of the second-generation Z4, while providing the basis for a lower centre of gravity and what BMW officials describe as “more sporting driving attributes”.

The new Z4, known internally under the codename G29, also uses a brand new platform, which will be shared with next year’s Supra in a joint engineering programme between BMW and Toyota. The design of the steel-and-aluminium structure is described as unique, although it adopts chassis, suspension and electrical components from BMW’s cluster architecture (CLAR) platform, as used by the latest 7 and 5 Series as well as the new X3, X4 and X5 SUVs and the upcoming seventh-generation 3 Series.

The Z4 will be built by Magna Steyr at its assembly plant in Graz, Austria, alongside the Supra.

With a brief to deliver more dynamic driving qualities than its predecessor, the new Z4’s platform incorporates extra-wide sill elements that are said to contribute to a more than 30% increase in torsional rigidity over the structure used by its predecessor. When Autocar had an early drive of a prototype back in May, BMW described the new Z4 as the stiffest open-top car the manufacturer has yet built, claiming it to be stiffer than even the fixed-roof M4 coupé.

New BMW Z4 Revealed

After months of speculation about BMW's forthcoming Z4, the new model has now been revealed and will be shown in the metal at Concours d’Elegance, Pebble Beach, California.

The new BMW Z4 will be a driver's car! That's the claim being made by BMW and given what's gone into the new Z4, we can believe it. A local BMW representative has confirmed that the new Z4 will reach South Africa in Q1 2019.

"The vehicle concept of the new BMW Z4 is geared consistently towards agility and driving dynamics," explains Jos van As, Head of Application Suspension. "The high level of body stiffness and the very rigid suspension attachment provide the perfect basis for a set-up that guarantees the performance qualities of a genuine sports car in terms of steering precision as well as longitudinal and transverse acceleration."

The First Edition of the new Z4 Roadster has now been revealed and will be shown in M40i form with a Frozen Orange metallic paint finish. The 2-seat Roadster features a low centre of gravity, 50:50 axle load distribution, wide tracks and a compact wheelbase.

The new BMW Z4 is due in 2019 and will offer 250 kW in M40i guise.

The big news is the debut of the M40i's 250 kW 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder turbopetrol engine in the Z4, which will give it some serious driving credentials. The new Z4 M40i will also feature a lowered sports suspension with electronically controlled dampers, M light alloy wheels, M Sports brakes and an electronically controlled lockable rear axle differential. Zero to 100 kph will take just 4.6 seconds.

In terms of styling, the Z4 wears a kidney grille in mesh design with large air intakes at the wheel arches as well as an integrated spoiler on the rear lid.The Z4 M40i First Edition features black mirror caps, a fabric soft-top roof in anthracite with a silver effect and rides on 19-inch light alloy wheels with a bi-colour double-spoke design. Adaptive LED headlights with matrix function complement the front-end design.

Inside, the Z4 is adorned in Vernasca black leather trim with decorative stitching, electrically adjustable seats with memory function and a Harmon Kardon Surround Sound System. BMW Live Cockpit Professional is fitted to offer the latest in infotainment technology.

The new BMW Z4 will also be shown at the upcoming Paris Motor Show from 4-14 October 2018 before its worldwide market launch in the first quarter of 2019.

BMW reveals sleek new Z4 Roadster

BMW is renewing its fight with the Porsche Boxster with its third-generation Z4 roadster, which was revealed at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

For now BMW is only showing us the M40i First Edition - an expanded range of variants, along with further technical details, will be announced on 19 September, BMW promises.

BMW has, however, confirmed that the M40i’s straight-six engine is good for 250kW and that the car will sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds.

The M Performance variant also comes with a sports suspension system featuring adaptive damping, as well as an electronically controlled M Sport rear differential and performance braking system.

The First Edition is set apart by black 19-inch alloys, a Frozen Orange exterior paint job and glossy black mirror caps. Inside it gets Vernasca black leather trim and a Harman Kardon Surround Sound System, while ambient lighting is optional.

Features new to the Z4 include LED headlights with ‘matrix’ high beam function as well as the latest-generation Head-Up Display and BMW’s Live Cockpit Professional infotainment system.

From a design perspective, the Z4 sticks to the classic roadster recipe with a short wheelbase, long bonnet, low centre of gravity and 50:50 weight distribution.

The newcomer will also form the basis of the highly-anticipated Toyota Supra revival, which is expected to be revealed later this year.
