In order to make its smallest crossover offering a bit more comprehensive and eco-friendly, the Lexus UX 250h F-Sport has been added to the local range. This model acts as the new flagship that will slot above the SE trim.
The Lexus UX 250h F-Sport is priced at R874 800 and includes all-LED headlamps as well as an F-Sport suspension setup which includes specific springs and stabiliser bars, plus a rear performance damper for a more refined ride. Front and rear bumpers, jet-black trim on the front and rear with unique alloy wheel ornamentation for the 18-inch set are added for a more distinctive look.
The Lexus UX 250h F Sport package comes standard with a UX-tailored version of the new high-response Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system that debuted on the Lexus LC and LS flagship coupe and sedan. The system claims to increase damping force to minimise roll when cornering or changing lanes and reduces damping force in straight-line driving to preserve ride quality. With AVS, the vehicle’s Drive Mode Selector adds the Sport S+ mode which activates the system.
Within the cabin, the Lexus UX 250h F Sport-exclusive cabin include front sports seats made with a highly supportive integrated-foaming technique first developed for Lexus F models. The digitally-rendered instrument meter features a movable virtual ring inspired by the Lexus LFA supercar. A leather-covered F-Sport steering wheel, leather-trimmed shift knob, 8,0-inch TFT colour display, aluminium pedals and footrest round off the interior package.

With the reintroduction of the F Sport variant, the Lexus UX line-up now has a sporty flagship once again.
Priced at R874 800, the Lexus EX 250h F Sport joins the existing 250h SE (R824 000) and the EX 250h EX (R745 000) in the Japanese premium carmaker’s entry-level crossover range.

“The hybrid UX remains an alternative choice, but it's a smart, comfortable family runabout”
Lexus seems forever destined to be labelled as the alternative choice to whatever else is being offered on the market, and the UX isn’t going to change any of that. But then Lexus isn’t chasing volume sales, it’s got parent Toyota for all of that.
The UX has its quirks and isn’t as comprehensively sorted as something like the Volvo XC40, nor as fashionable in certain circles as the Range Rover Evoque. It’s definitely worth looking at over the Jaguar E-Pace and BMW X2 if dynamics aren’t your main priority. And if they are, don’t be looking at small premium crossovers.
There are various PHEV and EV options out there now, but there are plenty of people still where the electric options don’t quite make sense for them. The UX offers a proven hybrid powertrain, low tax and zero range anxiety.

Lexus South Africa says it is planning to launch the new model locally around the fourth quarter of this year, and it is expected that the updated model will once again be offered in only UX 250h hybrid format.
The exterior enhancements are subtle to say the least, but include minor updates to the headlights and rear combination lamps, while new exterior and interior colours have been added to spice things up further.
The biggest changes come on the inside, where Lexus says the multimedia system and connected services have been “dramatically re-envisioned” for an improved customer experience.
Here you’ll find brand new, higher resolution touchscreen displays, in either 12.3 or 8.0 inches, and offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The Lexus UX made its debut back in 2018 and since then, more than 240 000 units have been sold in over 80 markets. In SA, the Lexus UX has been the brand’s best seller.
Now, for 2022, the Lexus UX has been given updates. Under the skin, the the structural rigidity has been improved, with electric power steering and shock absorbers revised. There are new 18-inch run-flat tyres that are said to offer a quieter ride experience. For the F Sport model, performance dampers will be standard.
Lexus has also enhanced its advanced safety system offering, with luxuries like pre-collision braking. There’s a new infotainment system with a larger and higher-res touch screen display. USB-C connectivity, Android Auto, Apple Carplay are fitted as standard. There’s also a new digital key functionality, which allows customers to open the vehicle with their smartphone.

The Lexus UX 300e gets a facelift and a bigger battery with 40% more range
The Lexus UX 300e is the company's first fully electric vehicle announced back in 2019. Earlier this year, the ICE-powered variant of the compact crossover got a facelift and now, the EV option is getting an upgrade of its own.
The new UX 300e is getting a considerably bigger battery - it swaps out the old 54.4kWh unit for a 72.8kWh one, which along with improved efficiency deliver 40% gains in autonomy. As per European WLTC values, the range is now 450km while the older UX 300e only got 315km.
Lexus also worked on improving cabin noise and used the battery itself as a sound barrier. Extra effort was dedicated to furtherreducing wind and road noise.
The upgrade has added some weight to the car and the 201hp, 300Nm powertrain now has to move a 1,900-kilogram body. The new body is also robust as the company has added 20 spot welding points around the side and back doors.
The EV option comes with Yamaha rear dampers by default and the electric power steering and the shock absorbers are tuned specifically for the EV version.

The all-electric Lexus UX 300e has received a boosted range, body and chassis refinements and upgraded infotainment as part of a mid-life facelift.
Set to go on sale next year before deliveries start in the second half of 2023, the revised compact crossover receives a 72.8kWh battery, a big improvement over the previous 54.3kWh unit.
Lexus says this larger battery increases the UX 300e’s WLTP range from 196 miles to 280 miles on 17in wheels - a gain of around 40%. Average energy consumption has been rated at 3.7mpkWh.
The larger battery means the UX 300e now has a comparable range to the Volvo XC40 Recharge and the new MG 4 EV.
Power remains at 201bhp and torque is 221lb ft, although the firm says in-depth performance details will be revealed closer to the model’s launch.
Other key changes include revised steering and shock absorbers to “sharpen dynamic performance”, with other improvements made to body rigidity. The interior is also set to receive improved sound insulation.
The cabin gains an improved Lexus Link infotainment system, available with 8.0in and 12.3in screens. The trackpad system used in the previous model, and other Lexus cars in the past, has been replaced by touchscreen controls.
