Should I buy one?
If you can get your hands on a 600LT Spider, you’ll be buying one of the finest convertible supercars yet made, and one that’s more desirable and exhilarating than many a hard-top rival.
But that’s a big if. When McLaren puts the car into production next month, it will stay there for no more than a year with volumes no greater than 20-25% of the 570S Spider on which it is based. Best be quick, then.

McLaren 600LT Spider by MSO
As the new McLaren 600LT Spider enters production, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) is aiming to inspire prospective owners at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show with a specially curated design, adding visual excitement in the form of an accented bespoke treatment in a tribute to the car's 675LT predecessor.
The 2019 Geneva Motor Show car has been designed by MSO to demonstrate how the 600PS convertible can match its single-minded dynamic purpose - shouting to the world through its top-exit exhausts - with a truly individual look that accentuates all the design elements that distinguish a Longtail from other Sports Series variants. With all 600LTs hand-assembled and available only for a limited time, MSO is providing owners with the opportunity to commission a car that will remain not just rare but unique.
The McLaren 600LT Spider by MSO combines colours, finishes and materials that express in heightened form the drama of the 600LT's aerodynamically-optimised body. The latest MSO creation follows in a tradition of spectacular MSO Bespoke supercars that have made their debut in Geneva over the past few years.
The car's striking colour palette centres on a Dove Grey body with flashes of Napier Green outlining key design elements of the Longtail concept, from the more pronounced front splitter to the larger rear diffuser. Dove Grey, a solid colour to save weight, provides the perfect canvas on which the shimmering metallic Napier Green accents can stand out. The choice of Napier Green provides a link back to the 600LT's predecessor, the 675LT, for which Napier Green was one of the original hues. It has been available only as an MSO Bespoke colour since then.

What a legacy! McLaren builds its 20 000th car
McLaren, the luxury British sportscar and supercar company, has celebrated the 20 000th car to be hand-assembled at its McLaren Production Centre (MPC) in Woking, Surrey.
The 20 000th car built was a right-hand drive 600LT Spider (in Chicane Grey) from the brand’s Sports Series line-up. Launched in 2018 as the next chapter in the McLaren ‘Longtail’ story, all production slots for the Coupe variant have already been filled.
This latest milestone represents a further significant achievement for the British marque and comes eight years after the first McLaren road car left the Production Centre in July 2011.

Novitec Takes McLaren 600LT Up To 678 Hp (506 KW)
McLaren’s 600LT is pretty much perfect according to reviews and what owners say so why does it need more power? Because there is no such thing as too much power when you ask the team at Novitec.
The ‘baby long tail’ leaves Woking with 592 hp (441 kW) and 620 Nm of torque for a 2.9s 0 to 100 km/h. Novitec didn’t think this was quite enough and so bumped the 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 to 678 hp (506 kW) and 700 Nm (525 ft lb) of torque, bringing the 100 km/h sprint down a tenth and top speed up a touch. The additional grunt comes thanks to the use of an ECU tune, and the addition of Novitec’s own stainless steel exhaust system, complete with more free-flowing catalytic converters. Lower levels of power upgrade can also be chosen if that is what you are after.
Aside from the modifications under the skin, Novitec also worked its magic on the exterior, offering a new two-piece carbon fibre airbox, a more aggressive, exposed carbon fibre front bonnet and lowering springs, reducing ride height by 30mm. Also making an appearance are a staggered set of lightweight forged wheels, designed in partnership with US wheel manufacturer Vossen.

What It's Really Like To Daily Drive A Modern Supercar
Verdict
You’re probably thinking that for a potential McLaren buyer, all of these mishaps won’t matter. The person who has the money to buy a machine of this expenditure also has the financial resources to deal with its capricious behavior. My poor-person problems do not bother the rich.
But if you suddenly got this crazy idea of renting a supercar for the weekend because you just got a nice bonus at work, know this: these cars weren’t built for average folk like you and me. And you’d better be prepared, because the fun ends fast when you’re looking for a place to wash the thing without damaging anything.

McLaren 600LT As Fast As 720S Around The Nürburgring
The McLaren 600LT is down on power by around 120 hp (90 kW) compared to the bigger brother 720S but as this Nürburgring lap demonstrates, its not all about power.
Sport Auto recently jumped into a 600LT and set a lap time around the ‘Ring with driver Christian Gebhardt behind the wheel. He was able to lap the infamous circuit in 7:08.82 which is less than a second slower than the time he set in the 720S earlier this year.
