Review: 2025 Audi S3 Sedan
How much does the S3 cost and what are its rivals?

It’s difficult to ignore the in-house competition with Volkswagen’s eighth-generation Golf R (R1 016 600) with which the S3 shares its architecture. However, the S3 has the advantage on the Mk8 Golf R’s outputs (235 kW and 400 N.m) ever so slightly, and then there’s the bigger boot of the S3 sedan that might pique your interest if you don’t want to buy outside the group. (As a reminder, the Mk8.5 Golf R’s outputs has been bumped up to match the revised S3’s.)
Obviously, there’s the Mercedes-AMG A35 (R1 299 632), which also comes in sedan form, though, conversely to the S3, the sedan is less expensive than the hatch (R1 173 973). The hot hatch from Stuttgart makes 235 kW and 400 N.m. Then there’s the BMW M135 (R982 768) and M235 Gran Coupé (R1 043 100), both of which use a 2.0-litre turbopetrol that makes 233 kW and 400 N.m.
Verdict
Now sharper than ever, I’ll go out on a limb and say that this is the ultimate version of the S3. The higher outputs and more comprehensive standard specification alone are noteworthy – especially with the Audi now more powerful than its rivals – but it’s the way the S3 can be thrown around with 100% commitment that is the true benchmark in the segment right now. With subtler looks than the RS 3 (and even its rivals) but the performance potential to scare real sportscars, the S3 is perhaps the sleeper that dreams are made of.
