Audi RS Q8 Spied With Red Accents And No Camouflage

The latest spy photos seen here give us our first clear look at the angry performance SUV sporting some Audi Sport decals with lots of performance-orientated red accents.

So what do we see here? Upfront, we see a distinctive and aggressive front fascia we have come to expect from the RS models. At the back, there is a more aggressive and lower rear diffuser housing the well-known oval pipes. The red accents which are extensive show us a few of the signature RS design cues and things are looking pretty promising.

Powering the performance SUV will likely be the same unit from the Lamborghini Urus which means it will feature a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8. At this stage, it is not yet known if it will have some sort of mild-hybrid assistance. The powertrain should make at least 600 horsepower (447 kW) with some rumours suggesting as much as 670 horsepower (499 kW) on tap.

After Audi revealed its SQ8 SUV with its monstrous diesel power, we did wonder if there was going to be something for the petrol fans. The rumours were rife that an RS Q8 was in the offing and our previous spy photos just showed a heavily camouflaged Q8. Now, we get to look at the near-ready RS Q8. Spotted by our photographers at the Nurburgring, this unit has the full bodykit on display showing off the massive intake, wheels and RS sports exhausts at the rear.

Has The Audi RS Q8 Grabbed SUV Nurburgring Record?

YouTuber Misha Charoudin is the Nürburgring guru and according to his latest video, the yet to be revealed Audi RS Q8 has broken the SUV record.

Charoudin uses a fairly clever technique to track lap times during these sessions that he claims allows him to predict times within one second of the officially published times. It is not exactly technical but he visually watches the test cars start their lap from the starting line and then listens for cars finishing their lap when they hit a set of curbing on the final straightaway.

Using this method he claims the RS Q8 set a lap time of 7:47 which is 2 seconds faster than the current record-holding Mercedes GLC 63 AMG S.

The Audi RS Q8 hasn’t been officially unveiled yet, but already it’s a record breaker. Packing 592bhp, the high-riding, high-performance flagship has smashed the SUV lap record at Germany’s fearsome Nürburgring with a time of 7min 42.253sec – 12 seconds quicker than the previous benchmark set by the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S.

Based on the SQ8, the RS model features the twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 from the forthcoming RS6, which means it packs 592bhp and 590lb ft – good for 0-62mph in 3.8sec and a 190mph maximum top speed.

The range-topping Audi RS Q8 has not even been revealed properly yet but you are already looking at the King of the ‘Ring among SUVs.

With an official time of 7 minutes and 42.2 seconds, the Audi RS Q8 has established a new record for the fastest production SUVs at the Nürburgring by dethroning the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S.

The GLC 63 S set the now fallen record nearly a year ago when it lapped the Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 49.3 seconds.

The soon-to-be-revealed Audi RS Q8 is already taking no prisoners as it has become the fastest SUV around the Nurburgring. Watch the run below!

First reported by British publication Autocar, the Audi RS Q8 has become the fastest SUV around the Nurburgring. With a time of 7min 42.253, the Audi RS Q8 has beaten the previous record holder, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S, by 12 seconds. That's quite an achievement for a big family SUV.

For some context, that time is as fast as a Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SuperVeloce and a Porsche Cayman GT4 (981). Under the bonnet of the Audi RS Q8 is the trusty 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 which produces 441 kW and 800 Nm. Power goes to all 4 wheels via an 8-speed transmission and 0-100 kph is said to be dispatched in 3.8 seconds.

The all-new Audi RS Q8 made its global debut at the 2019 Los Angeles International Auto Show. The Audi RS Q8 combines the genes of a high-performance RS model with the practicality of an SUV and the dynamic design of an Audi coupe.

Powertrain and performance

The all-new Audi RS Q8 features a biturbo V8 engine to deliver exhilarating performance and driving dynamics, setting a new standard as the prestigious spearhead of the RS model line. The RS Q8 recently became the fastest production SUV to lap the renowned Nürburgring racetrack with an official time of 7 minutes and 42.2 seconds.

The 4.0-liter V8 in the Audi RS Q8 delivers an impressive 441 kW (600 ps) and 800 Nm (590.0 lb-ft) of torque. The turbocharged engine with direct injection accelerates the large SUV from 0-100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 3.8 seconds and achieves a top track speed of 250 km/h (155.3 mph) or 305 km/h (189.5 mph) when equipped with the RS ceramic brakes.

The power of the 4.0 TFSI flows to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system via the standard eight-speed Tiptronic® transmission. Wheel-selective torque control can help enhance handling by ensuring additional traction across each axle through individual-wheel braking application. During dynamic cornering, the quattro sport rear differential distributes drive torque between the rear wheels as required. This active torque vectoring helps improve traction, stability and dynamics.

2020 Audi RS Q8 arrives with 591bhp mild hybrid V8

Audi Sport's first large performance SUV will take on the BMW X6 M and Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupé when it arrives next year

Audi Sport has unveiled the new 591bhp RS Q8 SUV, powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine and with styling inspired by the rally-derived Sport Quattro S1, as the ‘spearhead’ of its range.

The BMW X6M rival, revealed at the Los Angeles motor show, is the first large SUV produced by Audi’s performance arm. It joins the recently revealed RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback in a planned line-up of hot crossovers, and Audi Sport boss Oliver Hoffman claims it features “the genes of a true high-performance sports car”.

The RS Q8 has received a substantial makeover from the regular Q8, including a revamped singleframe grille and large front air intake. While the track is unchanged from standard versions, bespoke trim strips widen the body by 10mm at the front and 5mm at the rear. The machine also features custom sills, and a bespoke downforce-generating RS roof spoiler. The rear of the car features a bespoke diffuser and large quad exhausts.
