The new Audi RS Q8 has finally been revealed, powered by a twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 delivering 441 kW and 800 N.m (yes, the same peak outputs as the RS6 Avant).
That’s enough, says the Ingolstadt-based firm, for the big SUV to blast from zero to 100 km/h in just 3,8 seconds (or a mere two-tenths slower than the related 478 kW Lamborghini Urus), with 200 km/h clocked in 13,7 seconds.
The RS Q8 is electronically limited to 250 km/h ... or 305 km/h if you tick the right box. The latter figure, of course, matches the top speed of the Urus and is just one unit behind the Bentley Bentayga Speed. Audi says its new RS Q8 is the fastest production SUV to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife with an official time of 7 minutes and 42,2 seconds.

The automotive world might be rapidly electrifying, but the big money remains to be made in SUVs and sportscars.
Audi has combined these two profit opportunities with its latest release, the RS Q8. This high-performance SUV illustrates, yet again, how accomplished the VW Group’s platform-sharing strategy is.

Audi unleashes fastest SUV ever - meet the 441kW RS Q8
3.8 seconds from 0-100km/h. That’s what makes the new RS Q8 Audi’s fastest SUV ever, and one of its quickest full stop, given that it’s just 0.2 seconds slower off the mark than the beastly RS 6 and just 0.6s shy of the R8 Plus for that matter.
As you would have guessed by now, the RS Q8 is powered by the same 4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that does service in the aforementioned RS6 and RS7, and it’s in the same state of tune, with 441kW and 800Nm on command.
A 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 ignition sequence and RS sport exhaust system ensure that you hear the engine in all its glory, and the soundtrack can also be configured by the driver via the Audi drive select system.
Let’s make no mistake, this is not an economical car, but Audi has done its best to mitigate consumption through a 48-volt mild hybrid system featuring a belt alternator. The system can recover up to 12kW of power during light deceleration, which is then stored in a separate lithium ion battery. The set-up can save up to 0.8 litres per 100km in everyday driving.
The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system that, under normal circumstances, pushes 60 percent of the torque to the rear wheels, but if required it can increase that to 85 percent, or even send 70 percent to the front if need be.

Audi Design Boss Thinks Wheels Bigger Than 23 Inches 'Make No Sense'
Last month, we reported General Motors vice president of global design Michael Simcoe predicting a future hell where cars would have 24- and 26-inch wheels. Audi’s design head, however, draws the line at 23-inch wheels.
The new Audi RS Q8 comes with 23-inch wheels, but this will be the biggest the wheel offered, apparently. Speaking to Motor Authority, Marc Lichte said, “Package-wise, I would say this is definitely close to the limit.”
He went on to say wheels bigger than 23 inches “make no sense” because car footprints won’t get larger. As Motor Authority points out, “Audi’s push toward electrification will either keep vehicles the same size or make them smaller as the packaging of all-electric vehicles allows for larger interiors.”

Should I buy one?
Given its size and mass the RS Q8’s dynamic abilities are frankly outrageous, and while it’s not cheap it undercuts all of its less powerful rivals. Yes, you can easily argue cars like this represent conspicuous consumption of the worst kind and, in the RS Q8’s case, it’s hard to fight its corner in the fast family transport stakes in the face of the quicker, cheaper and more spacious RS6.
Yet as a physics-bashing engineering achievement, it’s hard not to admire the RS Q8. And of course, it doesn’t hurt that it undercuts the less powerful Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo yet includes many of that car’s optional dynamic driver aids as standard.

When the Audi RS Q8 was revealed the instant question was can it keep up with its more expensive more experienced cousin, the Urus and it seems it may just be a real pain in the ass for the Raging Bull SUV.
Auditography recently got the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a new RS Q8 with some camera equipment and an accurate Vbox to record the performance. The claimed 0 to 100 km/h time is 3.8 seconds (Urus is claimed at 3.6) but when tested it actually undercut the Urus sprint by 2 hundredths of a second and hit the benchmark speed in 3.58 seconds. This is an astonishing achievement considering the vehicle weighs a whopping 2,315 kilograms without a driver.

One lucky owner decided to take the SUV on an unrestricted portion of the Autobahn where they managed to hit 303 km/h which is very close to the claimed top speed.

Not so long ago, Audi took the wraps off its first-ever RS Q8 featuring the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that’s powering its Italian cousin, the Lamborghini Urus, albeit with a bit less power. Now as expected, German tuner ABT saw fit to do something about this.
Rolling out of the factory, the Audi RS Q8 churns out 592 hp (441 kW) and 800 Nm. Thanks to these healthy numbers, it takes the SUV just 3.8 seconds to hit 100 km/h from rest before reaching its electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. While the performance specs sound impressive, the Lamborghini Urus does the 0-100 km/h sprint 0.2 seconds quicker and does 305 km/h flat out. Yes, you can opt for Audi’s Dynamic Package which does away with the electronic limiter to achieve the same top speed as the Lamborghini, but ABT reckons it has a better plan.

Although ABT is keeping the performance specs concealed, this tune has given the Audi RS Q8 49 more ponies (37 kW) while twist force is up by 30 Nm compared to the Lamborghini Urus.

It began with the standard Q8 (in both 50 TDI and 55 TFSI guise), followed by the sportier S-badged version, and now ABT Sportsline has turned its attention to Audi's newest halo performance SUV, the RS Q8.
Producing a whopping 441 kW and 800 N.m of torque as standard, the German tuner reckons the 4,0-litre V8 can do with even more grunt. Via some under-the-bonnet tweaks (chiefly to the ECU), the twin-turbocharged petrol unit now churns out 515 kW and 880 N.m.
According to ABT, though, the model's already impressive claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3,8 seconds remains unchanged (we suspect the enhancements will make their presence felt during overtaking).

The tuner offers a software upgrade for the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 found in the RS 6 Avant, RS 7 Sportback and of course the RS Q8. The ABT Power Performance Upgrade cranks things up to 690 hp (515 kW) and 880 Nm of torque which shows gains of 9 9 hp (74 kW) and 80 Nm over the stock model.
