Jaguar XE 300 Sport

The new 300 Sport joins the Jaguar XE line-up and is available on the XF and XF Sportbrake featuring unique exterior and interior design elements. While the XE is fitted exclusively with the 300PS 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine, the XF and XF Sportbrake are also available with Jaguar's 300PS 3.0-litre TDV6 diesel.

All petrol engines are now equipped with particulate filters to make them even cleaner. The highly efficient, close-coupled filters are neatly integrated into the aftertreatment system and trap ultrafine particles as the exhaust gas passes through them. Under normal driving conditions, the trapped particles will be oxidised into CO2 and the filter regenerated whenever the driver lifts off the accelerator.

All 300 Sport models feature unique Dark Satin Grey details including the door mirror caps, rear spoiler and grille surround, along with 300 Sport badging on the front grille and bootlid. Distinctive 19-inch or 20-inch Satin Technical Grey finish wheels are exclusive to the special edition along with 300 Sport-branded brake callipers. Customers can choose from three exterior colours: Yulong White, Indus Silver and Santorini Black, while the XE is also available in Caldera Red.

Special design accents continue inside with yellow contrast stitching on the steering wheel, seats, door casings and armrest. Other modifications include 300 Sport branded treadplates, sport carpet mats, badged steering wheel and embossed headrests.

The XE, XF and XF Sportbrake enable customers to be more connected, with Jaguar's advanced Touch Pro 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard.

Further design enhancements as standard across all three models include metal treadplates with Jaguar scrip, chrome seat switches for all electric seats, premium carpet mats, bright metal pedals and frameless auto-dimming Infinity Mirror.

Jaguar XE 300 Sport arrives with 296bhp and all-wheel drive

Special edition version of Jaguar’s rival to the BMW 3 Series also gets unique design features

Jaguar has introduced a new, 296bhp all-wheel-drive model, the 300 Sport, to its updated XE range.

The special-edition model is powered by the most potent version of Jaguar’s four-cylinder petrol engine, the 2.0-litre Ingenium, producing 295lb ft of torque.

With drive sent to all four wheels, this enables a 0-60mph time of 5.4sec, making the car just 0.5sec slower to the mark than the V6-powered and rear-wheel-drive XE S.

The 300 Sport has bespoke design feature including dark satin trim for the door mirrors, spoiler and grille surround. The car sits on model-exclusive 19in or 20in wheels painted in the same colour.

Four body colours are offered: Yulong White, Indus Silver, Santorini Black and Caldera Red.

Inside, the XE 300 Sport has contrasting yellow stitching on the steering wheel, seats and door internals. There are also 300 Sport-branded kickplates, while the car’s floor mats and headrests are embossed with the name.

As standard, the 300 Sport gets Jaguar’s Touch Pro infotainment system with a 10.0in touchscreen.

Like the rest of petrol XE range, it features a new particulate filter that can capture ultra-fine particles and oxidise them into CO2.

The 300 Sport is available to order now, priced from £45,160, making it £7015 more expensive than the next highest-ranking XE with the 296bhp engine, the R-Sport AWD.

Jaguar has also introduced the 300 Sport trim to its XF and XF Sportbrake models. Those cars can also be specified with the brand’s 296bhp 3.0-litre TDV6 diesel engine, but they’re not available in Caldera Red.

To mark the launch of the new cars, Jaguar pitted an XE 300 Sport against Hungarian Winter Olympic gold medallist Shaolin Sándor Liu in an ice race. Driven by Jaguar’s car stability development boss, Sean Haughey, the car beat speed skater Liu on the ice by more than a minute.

Jaguar's chief engineer, Mike Cross, said: “Ice is one of the most demanding surfaces for any vehicle to contend with, and this race demonstrated the XE’s all-surface capability and unrivalled handling in adverse conditions.”

Jaguar XE 300 Sport, ‘Landmark’ models confirmed for SA

Jaguar South Africa has confirmed that the Jaguar XE 300 Sport and XE Landmark Edition models are scheduled to launch locally in July 2018.

The special-edition XE 300 Sport will be offered with Jaguar Land Rover’s 221 kW/400 N.m 2,0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine, sprinting from 0-100 km/h in a claimed 5,7 seconds.

The XE 300 Sport comes fitted with an array of extra styling kit, including black-painted brake callipers (with “300 Sport” badging), a model-specific grille, a “300 Sport” rear badge and a dark-grey finish for items such as the grille surround, side vents, side-sills, side-mirror caps and boot spoiler. Both 19- and 20-inch grey alloy wheels will be offered.

Inside, you’ll find yet more 300 Sport badges: on the front headrests, the steering wheel, the carpets and the tread plates. Much like the F-Type 400 Sport we tested last year, striking yellow contrast stitching has been applied to the instrument panel surround, door trim, armrest, carpets, steering wheel and seats.

The XE Landmark Edition, meanwhile, it is based on the existing XE R-Sport derivative and will be offered in both petrol and diesel forms. This model gains exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels along with a revised front bumper, as well as body-coloured boot spoiler and side-sills. The side window surrounds, side-mirror caps, grille surround and side vents are all finished in gloss black, with “Landmark” badging added to the side vents.

Inside, the XE Landmark Edition again uses the R-Sport model a starting point but adds Landmark-branded tread plates. The automaker says customers buying the Landmark Edition will benefit from the most popular XE features as standard, including Jaguar Land Rover’s Touch Pro infotainment system with a 10-inch touchscreen, a navigation system, Xenon headlights and front and rear parking sensors.

New Jaguar XE 300 editions coming to SA

Jaguar has announced two new special edition XE sedans as part of its 2019 model year programme.

Due to reach South Africa this July, the XE 300 Sport and Landmark editions are set apart by various exterior and cabin styling enhancements.

The 300 Sport is powered by Jaguar’s 221kW/400Nm 2-litre turbopetrol engine, and is set apart by a Dark Satin Grey finish for the grille surround, side vents, sills and mirror housings, ‘300 Sport’ grille and boot badges, branded black brake calipers and 19” or 20” alloys in a Satin Technical Grey finish.

The Sport is available in four colours: Caldera Red, Yulong White, Indus Silver and Santorini Black.

Inside you’ll find yellow contrast stitching throughout, as well as ‘300 Sport’ badging on the headrests, steering wheel, mats and tread plating.


Landmark Edition

This one is based on the XE R-Sport trim grade, and is available with the regular 2-litre turbopetrol (184kW and 221kW) and turbodiesel (132kW) engines.

It features bespoke 18-inch alloy wheels, a sport front bumper, boot spoiler and Gloss Black exterior trim.

You can have this one in Firenze Red, Santorini Black or Yulong White.

The cabin is decked out with Landmark-branded treadplates and spec-wise, it gets all the most popular XE features, including satnav and Xenon headlights.

Jaguar XE 300 Sport special edition touches down in SA

The Jaguar XE 300 Sport special edition has officially arrived in South Africa, powered by a 221 kW version of the British brand’s turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Jaguar South Africa quotes a price of R792 800 excluding CO2 tax, which we calculate will add R4 175 to the figure (for a total of R796 975).

The special-edition model shares its powertrain with the XE 30t derivatives, which means 221 kW and 400 N.m is directed to the rear wheels for a claimed zero to 100 km/h time of 5,7 seconds.

The XE 300 Sport is offered in four exterior paint colours (Caldera Red, Santorini Black, Indus Silver and Yulong White), complete with model-specific enhancements such as a Dark Satin Grey finish for the grille surround, window surrounds, side-sills, vents, rear valance, side-mirror caps and rear spoiler.

Alloy wheel choices include 19- and 20-inch items (also in Dark Satin Grey), while the black brake callipers boast “300 Sport” branding.

This badging is repeated inside on the steering wheel, treadplates, floor mats and headrests, while yellow contrast stitching is found on the instrument panel, door trim, floor mats, armrest, steering wheel, rear bench and 14-way power adjustable front perches.

Bolder looks, classier cabin, more tech for 2019 Jaguar XE

Facelifted saloon chases more showroom appeal to match its dynamic prowess

The XE will be offered in either standard or sportier R-Dynamic body designs – clearly distinguished by rear and frontal features that look different but are similar to manufacture and fit. Each of the two is available in S, SE and HSE trim levels. Jaguar marketing people reckon this system offers a continuing comprehensive choice while reducing the potential for buyer confusion.

On top of the model and trim selection, owners get to choose engines and option packs. “We’ve separated body and equipment spec from engine choice,” said Callum, “because we’re finding customers who want a sporty-looking car don’t necessarily want the highest-output engine. It might not suit their preference or tax situation.”

Engine choices for the XE have been reduced and refined. Buyers still decide from a range of diesel and petrol 2.0-litre Ingenium units built in Jaguar Land Rover’s Wolverhampton factory, but little-bought choices have been eliminated. On the petrol side, buyers now decide between 247bhp and 296bhp units (the quicker of which gives the car sub-6.0sec 0-60mph acceleration).

Not that the new XE is all about performance. Jaguar continues to make a stout case for its base 2.0-litre D180 rear-drive model, which packs 317lb ft of torque yet returns combined fuel consumption of 57.6mpg. Crucially, it becomes the first diesel car in its class to meet the EU’s ultra-stringent RDE2 NOx emissions standard due in January 2021.

Choosing this option protects business buyers from a 4% benefit-in-kind surcharge applied to other diesels and allows a considerable first-year saving on vehicle excise duty for private buyers. Jaguar accompanies details of the D180 with the robust reminder that its latest diesels deliver 25% better fuel consumption than equivalent petrol engines, emit around the same amount of NOx and are “often the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly choice” for the many drivers in the UK who do more than 12,000 miles a year.

Work on the XE refresh began around a year after the car’s launch in mid-2015. “As soon as we start seeing one of our cars in numbers, and on the open road, we start to critique it,” said Adam Hatton, head of exterior design. “We decide our objectives for a new model, do some sketching, then get the car into our design garden, start with a completely plain front and start adding the new graphical elements – grilles, vents, lights and the rest – from scratch.”

The aim for the latest XE, said Hatton, was to enhance the frontal features, with rear mods to match, so apertures are bigger and graphical facets are bolder, using elements that allude to the F-Type sports car. New all-LED headlights now incorporate a strong but subtle J-blade daytime running light, and the headlights themselves are around 12mm narrower.

However, the biggest changes are in the front cabin, a project led by head of interior design Alister Whelan. Trim materials have been comprehensively upgraded. Attractive upholstery stitching has been added and improved. New materials – including a luxurious quilted seat option – have been added.

Hard plastics have been replaced in even the most discreet places and you can now get an XE with three comprehensive TFT screens across its fascia, similar to those in an I-Pace, and complete with Jaguar’s prominent twin console-mounted twist controls that light up to operate the ventilation and infotainment. You can also now get Jaguar’s camera-based ClearSight rear-view mirror as an option, in exchange for a much larger roof-mounted ‘shark fin’.

Modernised and improved in visual impact, the XE is now nothing less than a baby luxury saloon in its higher-spec guises and a very well-equipped car even in its near-standard forms. Jaguar expects buyers to be attracted by the XE’s enhanced value: at £36,145, a D180 in R-Dynamic guise is £670 cheaper than the outgoing R-Sport equivalent – and that’s before you add about £1100 worth of extra equipment.

“We all love the XE,” said Callum. “It’s great to see it taking Jaguar back to where it belongs.”

The new Jaguar XE delivers an enhanced exterior design, all-new luxurious interior and advanced technologies.

An updated exterior design gives the XE a more purposeful and assertive stance. Continuing on from the beautifully judged proportions of the original car, new XE's sporting intent has been taken up a level, with contemporary design cues inspired by the F-Type sportscar. Jaguar XE appears wider and lower than before, with larger front apertures, bold graphics and muscular forms eluding to the car's performance and advanced aerodynamics.

New all-LED headlights with a striking 'J' blade daytime running light signature create a more purposeful look. The rear of the car also features a new bumper design and slender all-LED tail-lights with updated signature graphics which accentuate the visual width of the car, giving the XE a more planted appearance.

For an even more performance-orientated character, R-Dynamic models include additional exterior design elements including aircraft winglet-inspired sculpted surfaces, dark mesh detailing to the rear valance and alternative wheel styles. On the interior, the sporting influences continue with sports-style seats with contrast stitching, Satin Chrome gearshift paddles and R-Dynamic treadplates.

The beautifully-crafted all-new interior features extensive use of soft-touch materials, premium veneers and all-new door trims that improve usability and practicality. New XE's luxurious and technology-packed interior delivers more comfort, quality and connectivity for all occupants. Every aspect of the cabin has been enhanced for increased convenience, improved stowage and better passenger comfort.

The influence of Jaguar's flagship two-seater sportscar is also evident as both the SportShift gear selector and JaguarDrive Control switch shared with the F-Type are on the revised centre console.

A new steering wheel, shared with the all-electric I-PACE, features hidden-until-lit graphics and tactile switches for intuitive control of key functions.

The new Jaguar XE is also the smartest and most connected yet. Wireless device charging and clever Smart Settings technology also make their first appearance in the XE.

The first-in-segment ClearSight interior rear view mirror improves safety and convenience by ensuring the driver has an unobstructed view of the road behind. Using a wide angle rear-facing camera, the system feeds images to a high-definition screen within the frameless rear view mirror; unhindered by tall rear passengers, poor light or rain on the rear screen.

Facelifted Jaguar XE revealed with fancy new interior

The facelifted Jaguar XE has been revealed, with the Coventry-based firm handing its sedan updated exterior styling, fresh on-board technology and a fancy new interior.

The updated XE – which is expected to launch in South Africa in the second half of 2019 – gains a fresh face complete with a more aggressive front bumper and full-LED headlights. Round back, you’ll find a new bumper design and slim taillamps (again, in full-LED guise).

So, what about that interior? Well, Jaguar says it has made “extensive use of soft-touch materials”, including “premium veneers” and new door trim. The British furthermore claims “every aspect” of the cabin has been enhanced for “increased convenience, improved stowage and better passenger comfort”.

The revised centre console gains the gear selector and “JaguarDrive Control” switch from the F-Type, while the new steering wheel is shared with the all-electric I-Pace (and features capacitive switches).

The Jaguar Land Rover group’s “Touch Pro Duo” infotainment system also makes an appearance, featuring a pair of high-resolution touchscreens. Wireless smartphone charging is also offered along with the “ClearSight” interior rear-view mirror (which incorporates a wide-angle rear-facing camera) already seen on the new Range Rover Evoque.

Engine options again include a turbocharged 2,0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine available in outputs of 184 kW and 221 kW (and badged P250 and P300, respectively). Expect the updated Jaguar XE range to be offered in S, SE and HSE trim levels, along with the option of the R-Dynamic package.

Should I buy one?

All up, much as I’ll admit to being disappointed by the XE’s range-topping powertrain for a few reasons, I’d say the versions of the car more likely to be on the average customer’s shopping list should be better-placed to impress than they used to be; and that the XE’s suitability for lifting the mood of your everyday motoring, while still not without caveat, ought to be stronger, too.

On this evidence there’s good reason to hope for that – but we’ll see.

A lot will depend on that revised diesel engine, on which we look forward to reporting when we can. Until then, much as life will be tougher for this car than ever it used to be, it seems all may not be lost for Jaguar’s junior exec. Here’s to holding your nerve.

I hear you, and it does look nice. I wouldn't mind owning either the post of pre facelift. I drove the xes at Killarney once, my word. I would sell both @Chuckmyster and @iamafreak to human traffickers without a second thought to be able to own that.

Here’s what ex-Jaguar design boss Callum chose as his next car

Ian Callum, who has stepped down from the position of director of design at Jaguar after two decades, has chosen his next car: a facelifted XE sedan.

“I love this car,” Callum told Autocar, making reference to his box-fresh facelifted XE, specified in HSE R Dynamic guise and finished in red.

“It might be the smallest model in [the] range, but I’m particularly proud of its design,” he added.

“And on those wheels with that pack and in that bold colour, it’s a real head-turner,” Callum said.

The 64-year-old spent the first 12 years of his career at Ford, before moving on to become chief designer of TWR Design, where he was responsible for the styling of the Aston Martin DB7, Vanquish and DB9.
