2020 Salary increase thread

Wonder what kind of salary increase will we receive if any as thr economy is going through a serious rough patch.

Wife boss told them last year already that she needs to let go 1 person as she cannot afford both of them anymore.

The Boss has even cut off their working hours by a day.

4,5% increase in Jan and full bonus in Dec last year. Certainly no bonus this year nor any increases next year. Rumours of retrenchments making the rounds in the office before lockdown already.

This is what worries me.. i have a suspicion more and more of the white collar jobs will become hourly/temp/contracting including IT too which over the last few years has been getting systems and processes in place to facilitate this style of working.

But while working hours reduce.. living costs don't and only go up with inflation so this could be tricky.

We received an email on Friday from the CEO informing us staff that with the current economy crisis.

Salaries across all staff will be cut by 20% as part of cutting costs and work days will be reduced from 5 to 4 days a week, although some stuff will continue working 5 days but the 20% salary reduction will still apply.

He mentioned that as a company they are pushing for all stuff to stay employed.

So very hard times ahead.

Ouch...I'd rather take a salary cut than lose my job to be honest. Looking for a job in these conditions will not be good. Even without the lockdown, just the employment rate alone makes it scary.

Good luck for you guys!

I was intrigued when I read the article. Why are the cuts there permanent and not three months like other companies? It also sounded like they were getting rid of bad contracts this year. So why permanent cuts?

Is this part of the actual recovery plan that was put in place before corona?

50% pay cut this month, and probably every month, unless ZAR recovers. Self employment is rough.
