The all new 3rd Gen Everest has been officially teased. To be shown shortly.

Ford readies new Everest for 2022

Ford will soon reveal its 3rd-generation Everest in full. The Blue Oval’s next 7-seater Adventure SUV, which is based on the new Ranger, will be unveiled during the first quarter of next year, which raises hopes that the upcoming Toyota Fortuner rival might arrive in Mzansi before the end of 2022…

Ford has released images of the next Everest undergoing the final testing phase of the Blue Oval’s global testing programme for the new model. The finer details of the newcomer’s exterior execution, which was penned by Lee Imrie – an exterior designer at Ford Australia – remains hidden under a cloak of digitised camouflage that incorporates “clever reflective strips”, however.

What IS evident, however, is that the next-generation Everest shares the new Ranger’s prominent new grille (replete with a strikethrough crossbar) and C-clamp headlight treatment, its wheel arches seem more elaborate, and the rear three-quarter lights appear larger, than on the current model (the latter cue suggests this version will be longer than the outgoing model) and lastly, the tailgate features wraparound LED tail-light clusters (with a boomerang-shaped lighting signature); they are connected by what is either an LED light bar or a cosmetic trim strip that’s covered by the black tape.

“We created an artistic pattern that hints at adventure,” said Imrie. “The camouflage consists of a series of rectangles (tilted on a 45-degree angle) that were inspired by mountain peaks.

“We made sure the vehicle’s design remains hidden by designing the camouflage pieces in isolation. This means when it’s applied to the vehicle, it’s a completely random pattern,” he added.

New Ford Everest teaser pics leave little to the imagination

The new Ford Everest is set to be revealed during the first quarter of 2022, but Ford is giving us an early preview with these three teaser images (and a video) that leave little to the imagination.

As you can see, the Fortuner-rivalling large SUV will once again be based on the Ford Ranger, with the 2022 model emulating the new-generation bakkie with a tougher looking front end inspired by the F-150.

The side and rear views appear to be an evolution of the current Everest, and the model in the pictures (likely the Limited flagship variant) also gains larger wheels to give it a more purposeful stance.

The new Ford Everest was designed in Australia and is currently undergoing its final global testing program. Onlookers who spot the disguised prototypes are encouraged to take pictures and share them on social media, and the camo patterns also include QR codes.

None of the technical details have been released as yet, but it almost goes without saying that the new Ford Everest will mirror its bakkie cousin in offering 2.0-litre single-turbo and twin-turbo diesel engines as well as the new V6 turbodiesel. Buyers can also expect a fully digital interior featuring a large vertical infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster.

“The Next-Gen Ford Everest builds on its award-winning capability, and has the versatility to handle mountains, tracks or city streets,” Ford said.

Next-generation Ford Everest previewed under camouflage

The next-generation Ford Everest will soon be unveiled to the world with promises of it being engineered for adventuring and designed for comfort. According to the brand, this model builds on its capability to provide the performance and versatility customers say that they need to “take on life”.

As the next-gen Ford Everest enters the final testing phase of Ford’s global testing program, it’s been dressed to hide in plain sight. Wearing a digitised camouflage designed by Lee Imrie, exterior designer at Ford Australia, some of Everest’s key visual design cues will remain hidden until it is revealed in the first quarter of 2022.

Ford says that even at night, the cloaked next-gen Everest will stand out thanks to clever reflective strips in the camouflage.

“We created an artistic pattern that hints at adventure,” said Imrie. “The camouflage consists of a series of rectangles tilted at a 45-degree angle that were inspired by mountain peaks.

“We make sure the vehicle design remains hidden by designing the camouflage pieces in isolation. This means when it’s applied to the vehicle it’s a completely random pattern.”

• A camouflaged model of Ford's next-generation Everest has been shown.

• The production model will be revealed in the first quarter of 2022.

• The Everest is based on the Ford Ranger bakkie.

Hot on the heels of the all-new Ranger's reveal, Ford revealed a camouflaged model of its next-generation Everest. The SUV is based on the Ranger bakkie, but offers seven seats and a more family-orientated approach to life.

The Everest has entered the final phase of its global testing program and is dressed in a hue designed by Lee Imrie, exterior designer at Ford Australia. Though one can see what the next Everest will look like, key visual design cues will remain hidden until 2022's first quarter when the SUV is scheduled for reveal.

Imrie says: "We created an artistic pattern that hints at adventure. The camouflage consists of a series of rectangles tilted at a 45-degree angle that were inspired by mountain peaks. We make sure the vehicle design remains hidden by designing the camouflage pieces in isolation. This means when it's applied to the vehicle, it's a completely random pattern."

All-new Ford Everest rendered based on recent teaser pictures

The upcoming next-generation Ford Everest has been rendered based on the series of teaser pictures released by the manufacturer last week. The digital impression of the large SUV doesn’t deviate much from the brand’s current design language.

As detailed by Kolesa, we see the front of the Ford Everest impression maintaining the main cues of the Ranger with the C-shaped headlamps and bold grille design however, a bunch of the chrome trimmings have been replaced with a more conservative set of black ones. The satin silver anti-scuff plating is maintained to reserve an element of ruggedness.

At the side and rear, the Ford Everest takes on a form that is somewhat sleeker and more modern than the soon-to-be replaced model. The key element here is the dynamic set of LED taillamps that are partially integrated into the tailgate. This is accentuated by a slim black rear anti-scuff plate and subtle spoiler attached to the hatch. Subtle dynamic lines are applied to the doors while the rear section of windows is neatly integrated into the bodywork. Silver roof railings and black rocker panels round off the overall design.

The 2023 Ford Everest Is The Better Ford Ranger SUV, Not The Bronco

The new Ford Everest posed little threat to the Ford Bronco, but Ford probably won't sell it in the U.S.

The 2023 Ford Ranger is on the way and the mid-size truck segment will be the better for it. Between the updated Toyota Tacoma, the restyled Nissan Frontier and the new Ford Ranger, the segment looks like it’ll be competitive again.

But the upcoming release of the Ranger highlights the lack of an SUV based exactly on that truck in the U.S. That equivalent SUV is the new Ford Everest. I know, the Bronco is based on the Ranger, but given how beloved the Ranger is and the close relation, the Ford Everest deserves a shot here.

The Everest is essentially a Ranger that seats up to seven people. Ford Australia says the new Everest is in the final testing and trial stages and will debut early next year. It’ll share both its platform and drivetrain with the Ranger. That means it’ll likely get the new Ranger’s 3-liter turbodiesel V6, along with options for a handful of smaller diesel and gasoline engines.

Update: The camouflage is falling away as spy photographs taken in January 2022 show the Ford Everest in a bit more detail. What’s very clever is that if you zoom in, the camouflage used is not your ordinary mix of swirls and shapes, but rather clever use of letters, spelling out Everest. This mule was spotted near Ford’s facility near Dearborn, Michigan in the US. Pics by S. Baldauf/SB-Medien.
