2022 Ford Everest (3rd Generation)

Ford Everest Tremor confirmed for SA – Here’s when it’s coming

Set to join the revised local Everest lineup in 2026, Ford South Africa has announced the adventure-focused Everest Tremor for our market.

Forming part of Ford’s revised local Everest lineup, the Blue Oval brand’s SA arm is set to introduce a Tremor variant of its Ranger-based seven-seater SUV to our market. Billed as the “ultimate” family-focused adventure vehicle, the Everest Tremor employs its maker’s 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine, producing 184 kW and 600 N.m of torque – the latter delivered to all four corners via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

To enhance its adventure-focused proviso, the Everest Tremor adopts “specially developed” suspension, which incorporates Bilstein position-sensitive dampers and new springs. The Tremor package further includes General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tyres. Thanks to the fitment of the former and latter, the Everest Tremor benefits from a 26 mm increase in ground clearance compared to the standard model. The Everest Tremor also features a Rock Crawl drive mode, which optimises traction and momentum on loose and rocky surfaces. In addition to the aforementioned off-road enhancements, Tremor spec also gains a steel bash plate and “heavy-duty” side steps.

Ford Everest Tremor Locked in for SA

The updated Everest range will be expanded by the addition of a Tremor derivative, set to arrive in the 4th quarter of 2026.

The Ford Everest Tremor is likely to be the most rugged and talented offroad-ready version of Ford’s three-row SUV. The Tremor trim level is purely focused on leaving the tarmac far behind and features a number of upgrades.

These take the form of an offroad suspension with Bilstein dampers and new springs. The wheels are wrapped in General Grabber AT3 all-terrain rubber and thanks to the combination of both the tyres and enhanced suspension, the Ford Everest Tremor boasts an additional 26 mm of ground clearance in comparison to the standard Everest. This derivative also features the Rock Crawl drive mode.

In terms of engine and transmission, the 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged diesel engine is on duty and in this application it makes 184 kW and 600 Nm, and Ford claims a 3.5 ton maximum braked towing capacity.

Ford Everest (2026) Price & Specs

Pricing scoop! Here’s what the revised Ford Everest line-up – which will start some R128 000 lower than before – will cost when it officially launches in South Africa…

- Updated 2.0 SiT engine will replace 2.0 BiT
- New Active grade to come in 4×2 and 4×4
- Starting price will effectively fall R128k
- 2.3T set to be added (though pricing is TBA)
- 3.0TD V6 4WD to be offered in Sport guise

The updated Ford Everest range is scheduled to launch in South Africa soon, complete with a revised engine line-up. But, ahead of this refreshed adventure SUV’s official market introduction, Cars.co.za has unearthed local prices – with our information suggesting a considerable R128 000 drop in the model’s starting price.

As announced late in 2025, Ford will discontinue the 2.0 BiT turbodiesel engine from the Thailand-sourced Everest portfolio, a move it has already completed with the locally built Ranger bakkie line-up. As a reminder, the bi-turbo motor powers 4 of the 6 derivatives in the outgoing Everest range, where it delivers peak outputs of 154 kW and 500 Nm.

Active grade returns (powered by 2.0 SiT engine)

With Ford set to axe the 2.0 BiT engine, the company will instead offer the entry-level derivatives – which will furthermore switch to the Active grade (as the outgoing range’s XLT spec will fall away) – with the single-turbo version of the 4-cylinder oil-burning motor. This mill offers lower outputs of 125 kW and 405 Nm.

As it does in the updated Ranger, this updated 2.0 SiT engine has switched from a wet timing belt to a chain for what Ford describes as “improved durability”. It also upgrades to a 10-speed automatic transmission, which is standard across the revised 7-seater Everest range.

Ford Everest Tremor: new rugged off-roader joins expanded 2026 line-up

Tremor on the way

The upcoming Everest Tremor will be powered by Ford’s 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine, paired with the brand’s 10-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel-drive system.

Ford says the Tremor has been engineered specifically for tougher off-road use. It gets a specially developed suspension package using Bilstein position-sensitive dampers and revised springs, along with General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tyres.

The revised suspension and tyre combination increases ground clearance by 26mm compared with the standard Everest.

The Tremor will be the only Everest derivative fitted with a dedicated rock crawl drive mode.

Visual changes include a honeycomb grille with integrated auxiliary LED lamps, steel bash plates, heavy-duty side steps and unique Tremor badging. Command Grey will be offered as an exclusive exterior colour.

Inside, the Tremor receives leather-accented seats embossed with Tremor branding, ebony interior detailing and all-weather floor mats. It retains Everest's SYNC 4 infotainment system and full suite of driver assistance technologies.

Pricing for the Tremor will be released closer to launch.
