2022 Kia EV6

Kia has magicked* some more range from the funky new EV6

*cleverly engineered, actually. Will 326 miles shift your Tesla loyalty?

When Kia pulled the digital wraps off its striking new EV6 electric crossover-hatch thingy earlier this year, it told us that the big-battery rear-wheel drive version was going to have a target range of 316 miles. And that sounds pretty healthy to us.

But, the finished EV6 has now officially had its WLTP range certified, and it’s been rated as good for 326 miles. This is the progress we like to see.

Kia points out that this is enough to drive from Geneva to Paris on a single charge. Bon.

Should you prefer all-wheel drive (and well you might, given the 577bhp AWD EV6 GT is apparently good for a ridiculous 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds) then you’re not going quite as far. Sorry. But 506km – or 314 miles in Queen’s English – is still pretty healthy, huh?

What’s especially noteworthy here is this is an electric car (and a Kia at that) you might not buy purely because of sensible things like range or warranty or how big the boot is. Just look at it. This is from the people that used to give us the Rio, and thought being wacky was ‘putting an apostrophe in a reasonably priced hatchback’s name'. How times have changed.

First drive: 2022 Kia EV6 prototype review

Set to be a major contender in the bespoke electric SUV ranks, and one that should have more storied marques looking nervous

Knipping says that the goal of the EV6 is “to make a bold statement”. And while a definitive verdict will need to wait until we’ve driven a finished version, it’s clear how much time and effort Kia has put into making sure it does just that. Kia has come an awfully long way in 10 years. But on the evidence of the EV6, the next 10 could well be even more exciting.

I Drove A Preproduction Kia EV6, The First Electric Car Built On Kia's 'Revolutionary' E-GMP Platform. Here's What I Thought

Here's a first look at the future of Hyundai/Kia/Genesis.

The Kia EV6 is the first car from the Korean automaker to be built on a dedicated electric vehicle platform. Here’s what I thought about the EV6 and the E-GMP bones that underpin it — bones that will act as the foundation of millions of Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis cars in the future.

A few weeks ago, I attended the German Car of the Year assessment near Frankfurt, Germany. This was basically an event put on by journalists — in cooperation with automakers — to give writers a chance to drive and grade an assortment of over 40 cars.

New Kia EV6 full review - the 328-mile ultimate family EV crossover - The Late Brake Show

The new 2021 Kia EV6 is the Hyundai Ioniq 5's brother from another mother. It is a 328-mile family EV crossover that is an electric game changer.

Why? Because the price starts at £40,000 in the UK, the warranty is 7 years, the quality and design rivals or exceeds that of many German brands, and it happens to have over 300 miles of range.

UK fuel shortage is increasing interest in electric vehicles by 300 per cent

The UK is currently suffering from a drastic fuel shortage. A quick study surrounding the crisis has revealed that interest in electric cars within the region have increased by 300 per cent.

According to Electrifying, users on its website are up 75 per cent while Google searches for electric cars have risen by 300 per cent over a one week period. As the crisis escalates and the forecourts begin to close, more UK locals are seeking electric car alternatives, the specialist site states.

Ginny Buckley, founder of Electrifying, said: “The fuel shortages we are seeing this week feels like a throwback to a previous era – there is no doubt the future is electric.

“It is only natural that even staunch advocates of petrol and diesel vehicles are probably considering making the switch to an electric car. Our website is certainly seeing a significant surge in interest.

“We hope the current fuel shortages aren’t too disruptive, and we sympathise with anyone who has been inconvenienced, but we believe this increased interest in electric cars will be around long after the queues have started to die down at the filling stations. Our Beginners’ Guide to Going Electric is the ideal starting place for anyone who wants to learn about how to make the transition and likes the idea of charging from the comfort of their own home.”

The most popular car on its website in the last 48 hours is the new Kia EV6, according to the latest data from the electric car experts.
