Based on what GR are doing these days this one should be a cracker.

Toyota GR Corolla officially teased with an image full of clues

The Toyota GR Corolla has been officially teased by the American unit of the Japanese manufacturer. What looks like a simple interior shot is actually a series of clues that hints to a hot hatch variant of the longstanding moniker.

The first Toyota GR Corolla clue to be noticed is the “G:16” found where the time should be on the digital instrument cluster. This is possibly a nod to Gazoo Racing’s G16E-GTS turbo-triple 1,6-litre unit which currently finds itself in the GR Yaris. This unit has been suggested for the Corolla already, but puts a rest to the 2,0-litre four-pot rumours.

If you look to the side mirror of this interior, you can even see a Toyota GR Corolla dressed in camouflage, rallying about through the dirt. On the satellite navigation screen, the street “GR Four” has been imprinted which suggests that this model will also adopt the brand’s all-wheel drive system with the Torsen limited slip differential.

Blink And You Miss It: Toyota Teased The GR Corolla In The Slickest Way

One image revealed a lot about Toyota's upcoming hot hatch, and none of us saw it, until now.

Let’s play an automotive edition of spot the differences. Take a look at the two images above. Both are images promoting the Toyota Corolla hatchback. For over a month, details on the Toyota Corolla GR have been out in the open for everyone to see in one of these images. The brilliance of this is that we are all only just now talking about it. Toyota teased it in a way that some may not have caught. Give up? Read on.

What looks to be a simple Instagram post showing the interior of the Corolla hatchback with the caption, “Keep them guessing...,” isn’t so simple. It’s all in the details.

First, notice the background. On the far right you can see what appears to be a Corolla GR in what looks to be camo. It’s just far enough away that you can’t quite make out the details.

Golf R-fighting Toyota GR Corolla makes another appearance in sneaky teaser

The Toyota GR Corolla has once again been teased by the North American arm of the Japanese manufacturer in yet another Instagram post. What looks like an unsuspecting picture of an optioned-up Corolla Hatch is in fact a hint to the upcoming hot hatch.

In a series of three pictures, the second post boasts the caption “Step out of the shadows into the spotlight” with the Toyota GR Corolla parked sneakily in the dark with Gazoo Racing’s trendy camouflage livery. The second post states “Blink and you’ll miss it” as a reference to the previous post.

New 2022 Toyota GR Corolla due as 268bhp 4WD hot hatchback

Toyota will soon reveal its highly strung Honda Civic Type R rival, which uses GR Yaris's acclaimed powertrain

The new Toyota GR Corolla has been subtly previewed by Toyota USA as it's readied for a launch in the coming months.

The long-awaited entry to Toyota's expanding GR performance line-up – rendered by Autocar above – has been shown wearing the division's trademark multicoloured camouflage and with its overall design mostly obscured from view.

Nonetheless, it's clear that it will feature a more aggressive-looking front end and bespoke alloy wheel designs, at least, as a means of visual differentiation from the standard Toyota Corolla.

However, the difference between the two cars will not be as stark as that between the Yaris and the hot GR Yaris, the latter of which wears a completely bespoke bodyshell with no rear doors.

Just about visible on this preview is the GR-Four nameplate emblazoned on the side of the car, which confirms it will be four-wheel-drive and serves as a strong indication that it will use the same powertrain as its Yaris sibling, which was also developed under the GR-Four banner.

The Yaris's turbocharged 1.6-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which is already used in a hydrogen-fuelled Corolla race car in Japan, produces 257bhp and 266lb ft, getting the GR Yaris from 0-62mph in 5.3sec and to a top speed of 143mph.

Previous teasers have hinted at an output of 268bhp for the GR Corolla, which would match the Japanese-market GR Yaris.

Toyota USA has all but confirmed a GR Corolla hot hatch

Have a closer look at these Instagram posts for hot Corolla hints

Huge news for hot hatch fans (although potentially only those in the US), Toyota USA has been hinting at a properly hot version of the Corolla with some very cryptic Instagram posts.

Get a look at the images above. Both feature a fairly standard (and a little boring) Corolla, but in the background is one clad in the camo used by Gazoo Racing for the Supra, the GR Yaris, the GR 86 and the GR Super Sport Le Mans-bred hypercar in recent years. Toyota really is doing the business, isn’t it?

The captions read “Keep them guessing...” and “Step out from the shadows into the spotlight".

There’s also ‘GR FOUR’ on the red shipping container hinting at the Corolla getting the same rally-bred all-wheel drive system as the fantastic Yaris, and real nerds like us might spot the 2 and 68 on the climate control panel in the interior shot. That’s the power figure of Japan’s slightly more potent GR Yaris, which gets 268bhp from its 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbo engine.

Another sultry tease for the anticipated Toyota GR Corolla from the USA

Social media is a powerful tool if leveraged correctly and Toyota’s USA based instagram account has been utilising the platform to sporadically present their followers and the automotive world alike with snippets of the soon to debut and anticipated Toyota GR Corolla.

The team initially posed an unassuming Corolla in the well lit foreground while a camouflage GR derivative was lurking in the shadows to the rear. It caused quite the stir and became speculation for what the Japanese automaker was soon to provide the world with after the resounding success of the GR Yaris.

A story posted by Toyota USA once again has the Golf R rivalling model at the centre of attention as a story from the account shows a vague and blurry shot of the hatchbacks side profile. The blacked out windowline, glimpse of the rear diffuser and roof mounted antenna are the only visible aspects of the unreleased model and leave much to the imagination.

Looking forward to the reveal!

More bits of Toyota GR Corolla teased in latest satirical GR86 commercial

Toyota has released a satirical commercial of their GR86 fastback coupé but that is not what this article is about. While we will be receiving the already-revealed GR86 sometime soon, two Toyota GR Corolla Easter Eggs from the commercial caught our eye instead.

Unfortunately, like all of the teased images that have come before it, not too much has been revealed. The vague silhouette and rear lighting details are mostly concealed in the Toyota camouflage that has become synonymous with the model. At least we also get a close up of the anticipated hot hatch this time around.

The premise of the four-minute long commercial titled “The Focus Group” has two representatives from GR in a meeting room with an equal number of Toyota executives. The parties can’t decide on what aspects of the new GR86 to broadcast to the focus group in the next room with the suits arguing for the practical aspects while the GR team members intend on punting its performance and manual transmission, obviously.

New Toyota GR Corolla: 268bhp 4WD hot hatch arriving this week

Toyota sets a reveal date for its highly strung Honda Civic Type R rival, which uses GR Yaris's acclaimed powertrain

The new Toyota GR Corolla has been confirmed for an official unveiling this Friday, following a series of preview posts giving clues to its styling and powertrain.

The long-awaited entry to Toyota's expanding Gazoo Racing performance line-up – rendered by Autocar above – has previously been shown wearing the division's trademark multicoloured camouflage and with its overall design mostly obscured from view.

Nonetheless, it's clear that it will feature a more aggressive-looking front end and bespoke alloy wheel designs, at least, as a means of visual differentiation from the standard Toyota Corolla. A new teaser video (below), which confirms the reveal date for the 'all-new GR sports car', shows off the aggressive aero elements and uprated components that will mark it out.

However, the difference between the two cars will not be as stark as that between the Yaris and the hot GR Yaris, the latter of which wears a completely bespoke bodyshell with no rear doors.

It will use the same powertrain as its Yaris sibling, which was also developed under the GR-Four banner.

The GR Corolla Is Coming This Thursday

The teases are over, Toyota's WRX-fighting hatch is almost here

We’ve seen tease after tease for the upcoming GR Corolla, but Toyota hasn’t given us much in the way of firm information. The company has hinted at the Yaris’s G16 engine, its 268 horsepower, and its GR-Four AWD system making their way to the Corolla platform, but those hints have come through bits and pieces of info hidden through social media posts. Now, we finally know when we’ll get real information: This week.

Toyota has confirmed a reveal date for “its newest GR sports car,” complete with dark video of GR badges, brakes, and fender flares. The company still hasn’t said the word “Corolla,” but come on now. We know it’s a Corolla. It’s okay, Toyota, you can say the word.

The full GR Corolla reveal will come Thursday, March 31, at 9:30 PM Eastern time. The video will be streamed on Toyota GR’s Vimeo channel, in a video appropriately (if boring-ly) titled “Toyota Performance Product Reveal.” Ah yes, my favorite car: Performance Product.

It’s official: Toyota GR Corolla to be revealed this Friday!

The long-rumoured and hotly-anticipated Toyota GR Corolla is finally set to show itself to the world, with Toyota having confirmed that it will unveil its Golf R rival at the end of this week.

The reveal is set to take place on 1 April at 3:30am South African time (Thursday, 9pm in Japan) and if the rumours are anything to go by, this car’s dynamic capability will be the furthest thing from an April Fool’s joke. Click here to watch the reveal live if you’re up that early.

The Toyota GR Toyota is widely expected to inherit most of its oily bits from its smaller GR Yaris sibling, including its all-wheel drive system and a version of its 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.

Toyota will reveal the GR Corolla hot hatch later this week

It’d be fair to say we’re just a little bit excited for the GR Yaris’ big brother…

Good news! Toyota has confirmed that its new GR Corolla hot hatch will be fully unveiled at 2:30am UK time this coming Friday. We are mighty excited. Toyota has been teasing a hot Corolla for a while now, and it looks as though it’ll get the same four-wheel drive, 268bhp powertrain as the Japanese market’s slightly brawnier GR Yaris. Those teaser images above hint at some fairly aggressive arches too. Perfect.

The only issue? That super sleepy reveal time on our shores is because the wraps will come off at 9:30pm in the US, and it’s Toyota USA that has been doing all the marketing of the Gazoo Racing Corolla so far. Uh oh. There’s been no official confirmation as to whether we’ll even get it in Europe.

The GR Corolla Has Been Such A Long Time Coming

Finally, a Corolla hot hatch that will honor the nameplate's rallying history.

Like many of you, I am eagerly anticipating the GR Corolla’s Thursday reveal, mainly because it’s the closest we’re going to get to the GR Yaris in much of North America. (I say “much of” because you could, in fact, buy a GR Yaris in Mexico.) I’d rather have the Yaris, as it’s a bona fide homologation special; nevertheless, the Corolla will repurpose the Yaris’ drivetrain in a bigger package, quite possibly with more power. That’s still a pretty solid consolation prize.

The GR Corolla has also been a long time coming, too. Sure, “Corolla” might be a byword for efficient, unassuming transportation across much of the world, but it also owns a sporting history we’ve all taken for granted. And I’m not even talking about the AE86's tenure in drifting and touring car racing.

In the late ’90s, Toyota campaigned a Corolla in the World Rally Championship to replace the aging, cheating Celica ST205. The team won the manufacturer’s title in 1999, with Carlos Sainz (Senior) at the wheel of the lead car. Sainz would’ve won the driver’s title in a Corolla the year prior too, if not for one of the most infamous, unexpected upsets in motorsport history. One not terribly unlike Toyota’s 2016 Le Mans meltdown, ironically.

Toyota GR Corolla teased ahead of 1st April unveiling

Since their inception, it would seem as though the Toyota Gazoo Racing division never sleeps, never takes its foot off the gas, and continues to impress us with astounding cars writes Ryan de Villiers.

From the rally-bred 3-cylinder GR Yaris to the upcoming GR86, as well the controversial GR Supra, the next addition to the GR lineup has been a long time coming – it is of course a significantly beefed-up version of the rather ordinary Toyota Corolla Hatchback. Brace yourselves for the Toyota GR Corolla….
