Porsche reveals Macan EV interior with AR HUD

The excitement in the automotive world is palpable as Porsche unveiled the interior, and shared more details about its highly anticipated all-electric Macan SUV. With an array of screens and some cutting-edge technology, Porsche is making sure we don’t forget about its much-delayed electric SUV.

The Macan EV, a performance SUV, has been spotted many times in prototype form over the past year. Unfortunately, plagued by VW-related delays, the electric Macan’s debut has been a rapidly moving target. Now, the automaker has finally pulled the covers off the SUV's interior, giving us a glimpse of what's to come.

Macan EV's cabin is a tech lover's dream come true. Porsche offers up to three screens and an optional heads-up display that takes things up a notch by incorporating augmented reality, transforming the windshield into a fourth display. Turn arrows and distances to vehicles in front, it's one of the largest heads-up displays on the market, stretching a whopping 87 inches.

For the driver, a 12.6-inch curved digital display takes center stage. The center infotainment screen measures 10.9 inches and boasts Full HD resolution. If you're riding shotgun, an optional passenger display of 10.9 inches let you interact with various vehicle systems, sparing the driver unnecessary distractions.

And there’s an interior image now too! Porsche continues the drip-feed of electric Macan info

Porsche has been slowly drip-feeding us information about its all-electric Macan for what seems like decades. Heck, its last announcement back in October centred mostly around a boat but somehow gave us more powertrain details. But now there’s been a rather large dump of technical info, and we get to see the production car’s interior for the first time too!

Let’s start with the inside. As you can see, the Macan EV (not its official name, currently Porsche is referring to this thing as ‘the new Macan’) will get an interior that looks remarkably similar to the one in the Taycan, the Cayenne and the upcoming Panamera. That means there are up to three screens. The 12.6-inch digital dial display and 10.9-inch central touchscreen are both standard, while the second 10.9-inch passenger touchscreen is optional and uses a special film to stop the driver from seeing its contents. Still a separate climate control panel with buttons though. Good news.

Porsche has also let slip that it will offer an augmented reality head-up display for the first time on this Macan, with navigation arrows and driver assist functions being displayed closer to the driver’s line of sight.

What else? Well, there’s a light strip with 56 LEDs that runs right across the front of the interior and communicates greetings, warnings or charging states and the like. Oh, and you’ll have access to the new Porsche App Centre where you can download third-party apps like BBC Sounds, Spotify, YouTube or even TikTok. Uh oh. We’re also told there’s updated voice control tech and that the whole infotainment system has been upgraded to be much quicker. Plus, there’s much more of a sloping coupe-like roofline than you might expect.

The all-electric, second-generation Macan is due to land later this year, and Porsche has confirmed it will offer a minimum driving range of 310 miles to stand tall against rivals like the Audi Q4 e-tron and the Mercedes-Benz EQE. Truly, these are exciting waters.

Excitement that continues when you learn efficiency is at the forefront of the new car’sdesign. Yay! So beyond the typical Porsche traits, such as the huge vents out front, single bar tail-light out back, and low-squat stance in between, an extending active rear wing and cooling flaps beneath the front air intakes form part of the Macan’s aero focus group.

In optimal streamline mode, the chassis lowers to create an area of low resistance, resulting in a drag coefficient of just 0.25. If true, that would make the Macan one of the most aerodynamic SUVs around.

The Porsche Macan EV has been coming soon for years now, but it should finally be launched this year. Maybe. It was delayed both in 2022 and in 2023, so at this point we wouldn't bet against another delay.

Porsche seems to be, however, as it's seemingly ramping up its pre-launch campaign, giving Edmunds Cars a prototype to take on a highway range test. Edmunds Cars do a lot of these generally, but not like this - this one is a highway-only test, without any city driving. Also, the car's exterior is slightly camouflaged, and the interior wasn't finished.

Porsche assures us that neither of those things should influence the results. So what are the results, just in case you couldn't watch the video? Let's set the stage first. Edmunds Cars wasn't allowed to name the trim level the car used, but it is the top trim level, and thus the expectation was it would manage around 402 km.
