Ferrari’s 812 Superfast successor. The N/A V12 is kept.

Ferrari 12Cilindri revealed as 819bhp GT with screaming V12

812 Superfast successor is a striking, high-tech celebration of Ferrari's biggest engine

Ferrari’s new flagship GT car, the 12Cilindri, is the most powerful pure-combustion car it has yet put into series production.

Revealed on the sidelines of the Miami Grand Prix to commemorate Ferrari’s 70th anniversary in the US, the 12Cilindri “opens a new chapter in Ferrari history”, according to the brand’s chief marketing and commercial officer, Enrico Galliera.

Taking up the mantle from the 812 Superfast, the 12Cilindri ramps up the power, adopts a bold new styling language and introduces a raft of important new technologies. But, crucially, it sticks with Ferrari’s 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 after the Maranello firm invested heavily in making its biggest engine compliant with new emissions regulations in order to cater to continued demand.

Galliera said: “It is already compliant to Euro 6e [emission standards], so it is possible to keep selling the car all over the world for the time being and then we will see what happens in the future.

The 820bhp Ferrari 12 Cilindri is named after its mighty 9,500rpm V12 engine

No turbos. No hybrid. A big V12 meets active aero in Ferrari’s latest super-GT

The Italian language is very good – molto bene – at translating ordinary car names into lyrical poetry. ‘Four doors’ becomes ‘Quattroporte’. ‘Red head’ becomes ‘Testarossa’. This new Ferrari ultra-GT is called the 12 Cylinder. But Maranello would prefer you wrapped your lips around their way of talking… and called it the Dodici Cilindri.
It’s an on-the-nose celebration of Ferrari’s signature dish: a big V12. A mighty 6.5-litre orchestral instrument, mounted way behind the front axle under a gigantic clamshell ‘cofango’ bonnet designed to showcase the engine bay more dramatically than the 812 Superfast or F12.

It shuns turbochargers or any form of hybrid boost, but lighter titanium conrods and forged pistons mean it’s now even revvier. Power matches the wild 812 Competizione’s 820bhp. Maximum torque is 500lb ft at 7,250rpm, but more than three-quarters of that overtaking oomph is on tap from 2,500rpm. The redline’s a heady 9,500rpm – kiss the limiter a couple of times and you’ll find yourself doing 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds, 0-125mph in 7.8 seconds, on your way to over 217mph.

No, those aren’t huge leaps over the 812 Superfast. You get the sense Ferrari has decided enough is enough. Its V12 ultra-GT doesn’t need to be any faster. Want warp factor? Buy an SF90, and a barf bag. Here, the chief job was to keep the keystone V12 alive.

TopGear.com’s guide to pronouncing the new Ferrari V12 supercar’s name

It’s got a V12. It’s called the 12 Cilindri. But how do you actually say it?

Ferrari’s replacement for the 812 Superfast – whose name used to get scoffed at for being a touch, well, obvious - is the 12 Cilindri. How in yer face is that? It’s literally the Ferrari Twelve Cylinder. That’s even more on the nose than ‘LaFerrari’.

Thing is, when we went to see the new car in Maranello to ask Ferrari’s engineers about the new 820bhp ultra-GT, they got a bit cross… with our pronunciation. “No, it’s not the ‘Twelve-Cylinder’", they scowled.

So, to help you avoid making the same international faux pas with our Italian cousins, here’s how to wrap your lips around the name. Maybe do some tongue-twisters first to limber up.
Firstly, the ‘12’ bit. The Italian word for the number twelve is ‘dodici.’ Ready? Say it slowly, with feelin…

The front doesnt look nice, I've seen something similar on a honda or a Peugeot.
