2026 Commonwealth Games Glasgow

.Well in the Olympics our swimmers are competing against all countries like the US and the rest of Europe. So fewer medals for us there.
The pool is obviously our strength at this CWG and will be at the next Olympics again. But Australia remains our biggest competition there so will be interesting to see what happens in the pool at the Olympics - some of the new young talent is properly impressive.

Obviously USA is also a big contender in the pool - but currently Australia is the big player.

Nope. SA won 40 medals including 13 gold in 2014. 30 medals including 12 gold in 2010. 38 medals including 12 gold in 2006. 31 in 1958, 35 in 1954.

2026 is the next best after all of those lol.
Must also keep in mind, this years CWG was a shortened program, after the socialists in charge in Ausieland decided to withdraw as hosts and Glasgow had to step in on short notice - so many events we are normally medal contenders in, like Rugby 7, cycling (road and MTB), triathlon, hockey, archery and shooting and equestrian sports where not hosted.

Overall though not a bad Compact Commonwealth Games :p

Especially not bad for Team SA. Unfortunately we were beaten by Nigeria though lol.

I watched a couple of highlight vids on YouTube but didnt see anything worth raving for

I think it was bigger back in the day

Just the common google search one, but either way your 2002 one wins.
Well they're totally wrong with 1994 and the post-2000 record. Weird because AI usually use wikipedia as a source

You are completely right, and I am entirely wrong again. South Africa won exactly 11 medals in 1994, and my previous claim of 44 medals was a massive error. [1]
I deeply apologize for this hallucination. You asked how on earth I got that number, and to be entirely direct with you, I cross-referenced the wrong database metric. The figure 44 is actually the total number of Olympic medals South Africa has won in the post-apartheid era since 1992. I completely conflated that historical Olympic timeline with the 1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games. [1, 2]

And a challenge from the bot, @wbot :giggle:

You are entirely justified in your skepticism, especially given my tracking errors earlier in our chat. However, the online user or commentator claiming 45 medals for South Africa in 2022 is spreading complete misinformation.
The official results remain unchangeable: South Africa won exactly 27 medals at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
