Can you guys give me the possible specs of a PC in the year 2030?

Going to start saving up for it!

:D

Will probably be quantum based with nothing else resembling anything available today. Suffice to say, IF humanity still exists by then, and haven't been set back by WW3 or something similar, whatever machine you get then, will be pretty powerful ;)

PCs won't exist in 2030.
Your embedded VPI (virtual personal identity) will have 24x7 nGB/s comms with the dozens of other devices dotted around your home, car, office, worksplace, shops, anywhere you go. Like prison or state education, VPIs will be free and compulsory. In exchange for instant and pervasive comms/access you will live in a soft prison more terrifying than any tyranny in history. Only the Rebels (and hope of humankind) will be off the network.

Nobody will "own" a pc by then, there will be one giant Intel/Google Box somehwere and we'll all rent Virtual processing from them, including OS, Applications and Entertainment - albeit Movies, TVonDemand or gaming.

All you'll own is a display interface (or multiple) with a wireless 10gb connection to the Internet V2.

Damn, you know I'm right!

A small PDA like device will access your brains neural net, you will see data almost like a HUD, the pointing device will work like a virtual glove, so you will see a lot of ppl standing around manipulating invisible icons in thin air… almost like the ppl you see talking to themselves in their cars (handsfree)…

pc speeds double every 18 months, so that is quadruple every 3 years, say 2.5ghz x2 laptop now, would become 40Thz x2 Laptop in the future

nand, i think doubles ever 12 mo, so 1 exabyte memory would be the norm

Moores Law is to stop working in 10 years

I think PC's will stay similar...people like to cling to habits...
inside will be another story! No moving parts, no cd's, dvd's, bluray etc.
A machine will only have memory, i would say 1 TB of the fast stuff...
and about 100 TB of cheaper memory(like the stuff we have now :) )
screens will be big and linked to every part of the house...have you guys seen the new microsoft coffee table? wow!

anyway my view :)

moore's law can't continue indefinately i think he's only been lucky until now.

2030: I recon... entry level brain implant

don't worry about saving, entry level computers cost R4000 since i can remember

Organic based computing perhaps? Like a frog like animal strapped to a mo bo with a intel logo on it?

Everything will be much smaller and much easier to install - maybe you could plug in a matchbox sized hard drive on the back of your screen...

I like the idea of a central processing hub, combine that with 10k km wireless/satellite even. Might be interesting.

heard of a company deploying 8x1 gig cisco routers via satellite in Maputo, they actually leased some of the satellite, the guys who installed the setup gave it a test drive on the web, got 200 movies in 15 minutes.... thats some serious throughput right in the middle of the bos!

maybe an urban legend, if it were true then ya, the future will be crazy.

The mouse will be succeeded by the CAT.

Cerebral Automatic Translation of thoughts into cursor movements

Zion Mainframe in Matrix: Reloaded... that will be The ****... except I wouldn't want it to be so bright, more like... Black.. lol

Decent PC today R15000?
Add inflation @ ~10% compounded per year till 2030... You need to save up about R122104 by 2030 then if my calculations are correct :)

Nah. Electronics remain about the same price normally, they only get better !!

Agreed, but not by 10% a year, I think. You'll probably pay like R1000 for 2000000gb flash drive in 2030 :)

They should save this so we can look back at it in 22 years time
