Hoping like all heck someone can help me here.

Went to www.vodacom.co.za website to buy myself a data package as the R2/Mb has been seriously hurting my bank account.
Logged on to my account, noticed the 20Gb for R499 and thought that would do nicely!
Clicked the advertisement and it took me to another page that stated I could *111#, send an sms or activate online, so I clicked activate online.
I noticed that the 20Gb bundle still stated R3600.00 but I figured Vodacom probably hadn't updated the website (it wouldn't be the first time)
So I happily clicked purchase..
Then I noticed my "bill so far" R3850.00

I called 082111 to inquire and the guy on the other side informed me that it's only for pre-paid and top-up...OMFG

I asked him to please reverse the purchase and he stated bluntly that it is impossible. Even if he deactivated the purchase and i didn't use any of the bundle, I would still be paying R3600.00

So yeah, to be frank, I am screwed! There's no way in heck I can pay for that purchase, it is my entire salary!

I admit that I should have been more careful but (I was excited by the promotion) surely someone can help me out here?
I don't know what to do!! :(

Great, thanks for the advice Khanya - I'll make sure to ask Father Christmas for a particularly fat cheque this year.

No I'm not kidding (does it sound like I'm kidding??) I made a silly mistake admittedly but surely there is some way something that has not been used and cannot be afforded and was attempted to be cancelled immediately can be just that?? Cancelled!

I mean it's data - I've made very sure not to use any of it (turned data off on my phone immediately) - I'll pay the admin fees for a cancellation, whatever it takes, but the bottom line is that I cannot afford it!

Vodacom have been very accommodating with me in past where I run out of bundle and select an upgrade package that only becomes active end of the month. If you contact them early enough they might recon your account before the next billing run.

Thanks unskinnybob, a slight bit of hope was needed there. I am frantic but Vodacom accounts department only open tomorrow morning. I'll be calling them first thing, and I'll be praying all night until then...

Ouch. Still not too bad for 20 gigs on mobile. Not much you can do now.

I'd try and call them, act angry that I was charged the wrong price. Demand thy change your invoice. Worth a shot, but I doubt it.

I hear you marine1, and you are totally entitled to take sides. I need advice and help here though, the "OMFG are you kidding?!?!?!" doesn't really do any of that.

Thanks marine1, I have just inboxed and pm'ed VodacomData, *stillpraying*

I won't act angry as it was clearly a mistake from my side that I tried to rectify immediately. If there had been a 5min delay before activating the bundle or some way to cancel a mistake, I would have been fine. But there isn't and as I have stated before, I cannot afford it. If I have to decide between rent / food and 20Gb of data, it really isn't much of a choice.

There is no way you can go back on that. That will mean a done deal is actually not a done deal. Imagine the chaos in the business world if people will operate your way. Have you got any papers to prove you can not be held accountable for your deeds? Or that you are under age or something? If not . . .

Plead
1. insanity
2. CPA

Interresting. I wonder if these online transactions are exempted from the CPA. Provided you have not started using (or maybe even if you have) the data, can't imagine that you are not able to reverse. Admittedly this may prove a difficult one. If you have paid with credit card, write a letter cancelling and copy Mastercard/Visa whoever. If its on debit order do the same and dispute the debit order. If you have not used it i.t.o. CPA I cannot see why are you are not able to return it.

To me common sense says that if you order a product and then realise you made a mistake and return it without using it in any way you are eligible for a refund (minus a reasonable re-stocking fee or whatever). I'm sure the CPA will also cover this situation.

You should be able to cancel and get it taken off your bill.
