20mb ADSL2+ what speeds you getting?

Hey guys

I upgraded to 20mb adsl2+ last week, but im not getting near that speed. Max I got was 1,2mb a sec "steam" which is not exactly a huge difference from my old 10mb line? Im on a capped 200gig afrihost account ...so I really dont know what the point is.On speedtest.net it sometimes go over 10mb, but most of the time its the same as my old account "9.xxx". Anyone having the same problem?
 
1.5Mbs on Steam downloads here, overhead on adsl is pretty high so don't expect 2x speed.

1.2Megs should be 10Mb/s speed. Are you sure your router is connected at 20Mb/s?
 
Mbps != MBps

Mbps = mega bit per second
MBps = mega byte per second

8 bits = 1 byte

20 Mbps line = 2.5 MBps (with no overhead)
ADSL has about 15-20% overhead

2.5MBps * 0.8 ~= 2MBps

Check that your router is synching at 20Mbps. You should be getting files at about 2MBps.

Sounds about right.

20Mbps should give you pretty much double what 10Mbps gives, since the overhead is the same for any given speed on ADSL - overhead indicates a percentage of the speed, if you will, so 20Mbps should give about 2100KB/s down.

Well guys I dont know ... as you can see there syncs 100% np. But im not getting close to 2mb download speeds... and still even on speed test sticks to 10.xxx speed.
 
Try reset your router and if still no luck, try the free 2GB (actually 1GB) WebAfrica account and see whether you get 20Mbit or not.

Then at least you know where to try and point fingers. :)

Ask for a port reset.

Grab the free Web Africa account and try again.

On 10Mbps connection you get about 1.1MB/s max download. People that say that they get 1.2MB/s to 1.3MB/s on a 10Mbps connection is not true.

I'm running on a 13.2Mbps line with a max download speed of 1.46MB/s
 
I get max 18.5mbs download on speedtest using Web Africa 2gig free account, Telkom guest account and Crystal Web. With Afrihost Business uncapped, speedtest best is 11mbs down.
 
I get around 1-1.2 MB/s from newsgroup downloads.
Telkom speedtest is max 15Mbps.
