Hi all,

I've just upgraded to 20mbit through Axxess but from everything i've checked it's quite clear that I'm still running on ADSL and not VDSL.

I've got a ZyXEL - VMG1312 modem in bridge mode with the connection being dialled by my router. The modem comes with two standard WAN profiles; ADSL and VDSL. I've set both profiles to bridge mode but whenever I deactivate the ADSL profile the modem says that no internet connection can be made.

On the VDSL profile there is a VLAN section which has the number 835 currently included next to 802.1q. I have no idea what this is or what the value should be so I left it as is with that section inactive.

Is there something I'm missing here? Is there something I'm supposed to be changing on the VDSL profile to get it to work?

Could be that your exchange isn't VDSL enabled yet or you're still plugged into an ADSL2+ only DSLAM

I checked my number on the telkom site and it say's I good for up to 40mbit so I think it must be VDSL enabled. Is there any specific way for me to check?

Check your line stats on that Zyxel router and see if it mentions G993.2 or G992.5 etc

If it says G993 then you are on VDSL

Also run a speed test and check upload speed. 20mb ADSL has 1mb whereas 20mb VDSL has 2mb upload

Will these new street distribution boxes improve the quality of my 10mb line? Or is it only for vdsl.

Should also improve your ADSL line as the backhaul upstream bandwidth for the SDB is also upgrade when they install VDSL.

PM TelkomZA and ask him to check why you can't sync on VDSL.

exactly what i thought, was on the phone to telkom yesterday as they had randomly just dropped my profile from 10mbs to 9mbs, the technican working on my port told me it would make no difference. :wtf:
