Evening everyone

Im looking for a new screen and as per title, is there any particular reason I should get a 24" over a 23"? obviously the 23" is smaller, but one inch diagonally, is that gonna matter that much? Anyone with some experience regarding this? Im looking at 1920x1080 screens as this is what Im aiming for... I game and watch quite alot of series/movies as well as the usual browsing/working...

And speaking about screens, any good suggestions?

Theres a new Samsung 3D LED display on their web site, that looks fantastic (look under pc monitors).

But when you click on the link, just gives you a blank page. :(

*Im using the Samsung 2450H 24" HD display & very happy with it, but would have loved the 3D display.

3D is overrated and you pay out your arse for it. LED is overrated. I bet you most of the profits go towards funding their marketing department to hoodwink loads of people... ;)

You can't say any serious gamer would ever really play in 3D?

For that kind of money, a IPS panel LCD would be much, much better (except it's not 3D - boohoo -- NOR LED! *sniff* LOL).

Most " 24" " screens are actually 23.6" AFAIK. But yes, .6" or 1" does make a difference. It's always best to go for the biggest you can afford. If you can afford 24", then go for it.

If you can afford 32" @ R3,499 and have 90cm+ viewing distance, then go for it...

Friend of mine hooked up his PS3 to his 3D display & played Killzone 3 on it - he said it was an awesome experience.

Dont know why people get so upset about 3D, to me its simply amazing...especially after seeing Transformers 3 in full 3D.

Entertainment on the next level.

No diffs, but as PostmanPot said, buy what you can afford.

Agreed that it's "cool", but doesn't mean you have to punt it for PC users, asking about normal LCDs? I mean on a ±22"? You will never get the same experience.

You want to consider what you want out of a screen. 23" is going to be smaller, noticeably but not greatly so. You will get a higher dpi, so things will be sharper, but whether that is noticeable is debateable. LED backlighting (99% will be edge-lit) should give you advantages in terms of the size of monitor (thinner) and power consumption, but otherwise isn't a deal breaker.

If you want 3D, Samsung 2233RZ is a good monitor at a very good price (R2.4k) for 3D. At 16:10, a 22" monitor is similar in size to a 16:9 23" monitor, and at 120hz it is one of the best monitors wrt motion blur, and gaming in general. The only downside is that it is 1680x1050, and 16:10 if you care about black bars.

3D is awesome yes, but not worth the money imho. Ive got a 55inch LED 3D TV. You cant really game 3D on everyday use, dont really think its worth the money yet.

IncredibleConn sold the 27inch samsungs for R2999, they are quite awesome if thats within budget. But dont think theres that much of a diff between 24 and 23, i didnt really notice it to much when i went from 24 to 27.

3D, ..meh. Don't care for it at the cinema, even less now that I've read the reviews for both the new Samsung 27" and Nvidia 3DVision (and how many people flog their setups after no time at all).

The 3D fad comes and goes fairly regularly. This too shall pass. But not after a buttload of people have forked out wads of cash.

I see it like this:
If you wanna "brag" to your mates that you have 3d screens and show them "look here, and play a few minutes", by all means go ahead.

Otherwise, as the posters above mention, go as large as you can afford ;)

T260 FTW! :p

+1, those marketing depts don't come cheap... :D:D

I admit im not really interested in 3D, I thinks its just a fad... Watched some gaming at my friends house on his huge ass lcd and IMHO it just hurt my eyes and brain to watch for extended periods of time, so for the time being, I think its just a waste of money, but anyway...

I have been leaning towards LED as the whole contrast deal is quite attractive as my current LCD bleeds like a woman, as does every other LCD ive looked at, unless you maybe go towards the high end stuff... Ive yet to lay my eyes on an LED screen though, so was wondering what you guys think? PostmanPot i know you think its overrated, but they do seem to be cheaper

Ive kinda been looking at the BenQ G2420HDBL... Anyone got any words? or should i rather stick to the usual LG's and Sammy's?

LED-LCDs tend to have much worse lighting than CCFL-LCDs - uneven lighting and light bleed... :(

I have a BenQ G2410HD 24" FHD on my second PC, decent screen and the light bleed is not so bad. Would rather stick to Samsung/LG (although Samsung screens are now exhorbitantly priced). The fact though is that light bleed varies between each screen. Severe light bleed will get swapped out, at least by Samsung/LG.

What's your budget?

Sticking with 24" as I sit no more than a metre away, even when stretched out watching a movie... A friend has a 27" and the thing is stupidly big for the distance I sit plus the pixel pitch is terrible as its a TV so you find yourself counting the individual pixels when bored with a movie...

Budget is no more than R2500

I see theres the Samsung BX2450 which is about R2400, even though it has that stupid stand its also looking quite attractive...
