256k Package

Hey guys,
I was just wondering if someone could clue me in on the average download speeds with this package? Also,whats surfing the net like?

I can't vouch for the 256 package, but my guess is it's every bit as good as the 128.

The top speed on a 128k connection is 16k per second. I average about 12k per second, reaching 14.5k top speed (so far)

128k is perfect for surfing.

So, I guess 256k is twice as good - you can expect average speeds of 30k per second.

I'm not sure what connection speed you are guaranteed - I just know that on 128k your always guaranteed at least 64k and the other 64k is shared. (leastways, that's what I read)

I have the 256k package and all I can say is wow I get between 25KB/s to 32KB/s download for more than 1 pc on a network this is so the best/cheapest way for me to get 2-3 people on the net with a decent to awesome d/l speed hope this helps.But just remeber for gaming this isn't the package your would want though I play DoD and do well enough it still isn't a match for my ISDN connection

i got the 256k package. Its brilliant for surfing and my average download speak is like 33-40k per second. Max ive reached with mine is 56kbs. Torrents arnt very consistent bounce around from like 2 - 25 kb.

I have 128 and my torrents avg around 12-14K/sec sometimes more. Uploads avg 18-24K sec (upto 30K/sec). Run 2 torrents at once to maximise.

I would guess by getting 256 you would get double. I would definitely recommend getting myWireless. There is just no better service. Nuff said.. Trust me, I had all the same worries and now I was stupid to be so worried. It works perfectly and downloads perfectly (so far).

Aye - it's great to be sure.

I d/l'd the Mandrake 10 Community torrent (2gig) and it took just a few days - didn't concern me, because it's a 24/7 connection.
The cool thing is, I could still surf without a problem while the torrent was d/l'ing

12 days online and not a single complaint !
Just make damn sure your zoned - best thing is to get someone to test your area rather than rely on the sentech zone thingy.
Some people have had loads of problems connecting.

On the 256k package, what is the streaming of audio and video like? I've never streamed on a 256k link before. I've only streamed on a 1 meg link in the USA and that was perfect - would like to know if 256k would do the trick too. Streaming from Shoutcast audio streams and streaming of QuickTime video streams from Apple's website?

i have the 512k package

streaming is pretty good, however it does depend on how fast the other server is etc

with full downloading going on i can stream 5fm and tuksfm with no hiccups, radio stations overseas also no problem, however havent tested it _with_ downloading too, think it'll buffer a bit every now and then, but surfing sure as hell didn't effect it much.

streaming video is also like instant (on the 512k link anyway) but on congested porn sites its a bit dodgy...

so thats why, kiddies, you should always download your porn FIRST and THEN watch it []

The quality of the streaming in terms of sampling rate isn't good from 5fm, etc, but was wondering about CD quality streaming. Stream some radio stations from the Shoutcast website (www.shoutcast.com)look for 128k bit rates and higher. Obviously, with no other downloading in the background. Reason why I am asking this is because I don't only wanna use this solution for net surfing and downloading, but also to listen to CD quality streamed radio stations through my sound system. And to view video clips, may it be movie trailers from Apple's site or video game trailers, etc. I would like to know this with the 256k package because that is the one I most likely would get.
