2gb 9600gt

Saw some performance stats on guru3d for a 1GB 8800GT. Hardly made a difference to performance stats. Can’t quite remember whether on Crysis there was a difference. So I am guessing this card would suffer from the same type of issue at the moment.

Yes i agree WRT the futility of such a move, .however: Bragging rights = 4GB SLI setup!? ;)

Ja, useless. especially on a 9600GT, but they love giving the mainstream/budget parts as much memory as possible to try and fool people into buying them.

One of these days, these bloody graphics cards are going to need CASES of their own they are going to get so big! :)

My 8800GTS already takes up 3 slots practically.

Well, give the developers the choice and they will!!!

It's these #@$#$#$#@ers who give ppl like game makers the horrible option of saying "listen here, we can make use of 2GB" so lets make it a system requirement! :(

:eek::eek::eek:
There's no way ANY game / app is going to use even half of that memory

There are quite a few games when run on big screens with high resolutions which will make use of that memory. Doesn't make sense on the 9600gt though since it isn't aimed at gamers with those screens.

8800GT w/1MB. Would be interesting actually to see the performance stats of this 2GB card. Not knowing much about how RAM affects game performance, my guess would be 2GB could just push the 9600GT close to 8800GT performance. I guess at what cost would the next question if it did come out at close speeds.

It would probably do very little for performance, and I doubt it would make it close to a 8800GT except at very high resolutions where the GPU probably can't actually put out decent FPS anyway.

Its just a marketing thing imo, Nvidia would put more RAM on the cards if they thought they needed it. At the moment 1GB is almost still overkill, and 2GB on a 9600GT is stupid.

i suppose that's true. especially in high end (high resolution) games where a 10% increase in performance is only 2-3fps.

Reminds me of a story of some guy who paid close to R2k for a 512MB DDR2 8600 GT..and how pissed off he was when he discovered that the cheaper 256MB DDR3 model is actually faster:eek:

oh wait..that guy is me:mad:

firstly aint no bragging right in 4gb of vga memory because all the okes your trying to brag 2 will laugh because they know its pointless :)

you paid 2k for an 8600gt lol

research ivan hahahah

Hahahah! shame periods.
Its happened with most cards, and increasing memory for more sales.
Most n00bs assume that the one with the most memory is fastest.

Probably a marketing gimick to get people thinking hey 2GB's is enough to run Crysis :P btw I wonder what Max res is on a 2GB version?

Have a look at this monster!!
9800GX2 it's... it's... big

...It has one SLI connector, two power connectors and it is quite heavy, but we have to admit that it looks great...

What type of mobo will you need for SLI and where the hell is it going to fit!? :D

that thing alone will cause load shedding to return.

I can see it now.... it will be a black market special request item to get into S.A, cause Eksom will be watching you! :D

LOL the 9800GX2 looks great, price wise its supposed to be in at around 450-500$ = R3500-R4000 and at (claimed) 30% speed boost over the Ultra will be my uprgade.

But the 9600GT 2GB i think will be for Photo Editors or alike that need the memory but not the 40FPS on WIC on MAXED settings :P

But we all know no performance is gained, look at the 320MB 8800 VS the 640MB 8800.
