Firstly I want to say high. . . high

Ok so Im a real techy when it comes to building PC's, upgrading, over clocking and what not, but I really dont know if an extra 2gb of ram would give such a big preformace increase to my system. I know that it would help allot with running multiple programs but yeah I need some convincing. :P

So I have lets say 800 rand and I dont know if I should use it on extra ram seeing that there are so many other stuff I can use it on . . .

But to give some specs of my current pc

Mobo - Asus P5E
CPU - Intel e8400 Oc 3.4ghz
Memory - 2gb Corsair Dominator ddr2 1066mhz
Graphics -Nvidia 275gtx
HDD - 1.5 TB total.
OS - Win7 Ultiamte 32bit.

For for 800 rand would it be wise to get another pair of Corsair 1066mhz ram (2gb) run Win7 64bit or just use the money or other stuff, maybe buying mass effect 2 that Ive been wanting for so long.

What else could you really spend R800 on though?

The RAM would be good for Win7 x64 and if you are looking at playing ME2, you'd want the extra RAM.

A suggestion I was going to make is sell your current RAM and then add the R800 and get yourself some DDR3 RAM, but your mobo doesn't support it.

So if it were me with R800 and that rig - I'd get another 2GB of RAM and then get ME2 2nd hand off carbonite or our classifieds here ;)

What cpu cooler do you have? Invest in a really good one and overclock your pc a bit , aren't E8400 clocked at 3.33ghz stock? They go all the way to 4ghz easily.

I've got 4 Gb. When I had to take out 2 to "lend" to someone, I sure noticed it was missing.

I wouldnt bother with an extra 2 of ram. You running a 32 bit OS which if memory serves only supports up to 3Gb max. So unless you planing on installing win 7 64 bit you not going to see all of it.

Well in the OP he does make mention of adding the 2GB along with Win7 x64, whether another cost is associated with Win7 the OP would have to elaborate on.

Rule # 1: You can never have too much memory. :)

Nope, E8400 is on 3GHz stock.
They go up to 3.6GHz without heat issues. Thereafter you need a pretty decent air cooler.
There's also no real or viable reason why one should overclock a cpu like this anyways.

Yeah definitely. It will be worth your while if you ever (as of now) hit anywhere above 1.6GB RAM usage. I find that pretty easy to do, but it depends what else you use your machine for.

I have the Zalman CNPS8700 LED cpu cooler. I know some people wont agree with me but oc it to 3.4ghz gave me a real performance increase.
I noticed that I had a little bottle neck with my 3dcard that my cpu couldn't keep up with it in certain instances, but after the oc it was gone.

Sadly I dont have a "gold" chip so I had to bump up the vcore to 1.28(Bios) 1.25(CpuZ) it idles at 35 in the winter ad maxes with Prime95 at 45"c Tcase (Summer 50"c Tcase).
But one thing that bothers me is that my second core gets 10"c hotter that my 1st core. When maxed my 1st core is 45"c Tjunction and my 2nd core is 55"Tjunction.

The temps are still in the save zone but weird at how much the 2 cores differ.

Okay but obviously.... the 275GTX is a lot faster than the E8400....

i borrowed a friends ram and saw a massive performance increase, go for the extra 2gigs. But i would recommend upgrading, so sell your mobo, or whole system.

Yes yes Yes yes Yes yes Yes

I saw a difference from 1-2gb, from 2-3gb, and from 3-4gb. Every bit counts.

32bit from vista up now supports up to 4Gb RAM
