Greetings, I am new here and I require some expertise from the mybroadband community.

I been thinking of getting ADSL, and I have done my own homework and comparisons. The use would basically be for online gaming (League of Legends).

As for online gaming the upload speed seem to matter most so I have noticed that Mwebs uncapped 2mb and 4mb lines have the same upload speed. And so the difference is not that major in online gaming ping. Is it more worthwhile to get the 2mb than the 4mb, not really a download freak so I assume 2mb line will be sufficient enough. Comment please.

Also I need some openweb users to comment, I was also wondering what is the contention ratio for their budget unshaped capped adsl? and their max upload speed. Also their contention ratio and upload speed on their uncapped products. They do not have these information on their website, I've emailed them but no response.

With capped ADSL in mind how is afrihost compared to openweb. I know openweb is IS but I do not know their contention ratio and upload speed comparisons. Please comment.

Thank you for your expertise.

2mb is fine if you not downloading.

Checkout Razoweb.co.za

Just signed up with them and so far amazing service and quality.

Wow how can they be so cheap? Have you got more details for their adsl? contention ratio, max upload speed, unshaped, shaped or any throttle? What backbone fibre they on? Never heard of this ISP kinda curious :)

razoweb don't seem particularly cheap - you can get better from other providers. Try MWeb, Openweb, Afrihost or Webafrica. These guys are a lot bigger and probably more reliable.

2Meg is fine. They have a gamers uncapped product which I recommend for you.

Yes I know these big guys but I am comparing between these big guys. I am considering capped 4meg vs uncapped 2meg since the price difference is fairly close. But the capped service of afrihost and openweb do not indicate their upload speed and contention ratios. I would assume capped is around 10:1? upload speed 512kbps as well? Is there any ISP that provides higher then that? Anyone with the proper figures?

Mweb 2mb will be perfect. CS:GO, Dota 2, BF3, TF2, LoL, and plenty other games all work hundreds :)

Mweb you pay the same for 1MB to 4mb these days. Telkom upgraded all lines from 1MB to 4MB and no extra cost. 4MB to 10MB if the exchange allows it, also at no cost.

Capped accounts are limited to the upload of your ADSL.

Like I said earlier, get Openweb Gamers uncapped at 2Meg and be happy :)

Oh ya I saw that special, regarding that gamers special. I don't quite get their advertisement. during working hours? That wouldn't really work out since we work and game after hours. And again no proper figures for their contention ratio nor upload speed, don't like being left in the dark regarding stats XD. Anyone here on that package can share their experience? Thanks :D

I am pretty sure they only upgraded 384/512 to 1meg and 1meg to 2meg and then 2meg to 4meg

No. You pay more for 2mb than 1mb and more for 4mbps than 2mbps

Telkom did free upgrades yes, the ISP didn't (except for the up to 1mbps packages)

I was wondering what he meant, since their prices were really a big difference.

Well 2meg Mweb seems to be the way to go. Openwebs new special only states priority for gaming within working hours that is kinda not gonna work :D and the downloading side doesn't really appeal to me. Since I hardly download anything except for movies and series that come out once a week, 1-2 gigs a week of downloads normally. Unless someone else using this package and experiences it differently.

Thanks for the input guys. :)

Afrihost is cheaper by 40 rand, and I play alota dota 2 online and haven't had one latency issue.

I thought afrihost uncapped are shaped? They don't state anything on their website. well not on the price page.

All uncapped accounts get shaped, unless you buy uncapped AND unshaped. You are not shaped 24x7 though, only during peak.

I meant for gaming. Mweb prioritize gaming. So it is semi unshaped. But afrihost does not. So therefore if someone surfs your gaming experience is tarnished no? :D

When you say only during peak does Mweb also shape gaming during peak? They never stated that on their website I assume they prioritize gaming 24/7 if not i will need to reconsider.
