I meant for gaming. Mweb prioritize gaming. So it is semi unshaped. But afrihost does not. So therefore if someone surfs your gaming experience is tarnished no?

When you say only during peak does Mweb also shape gaming during peak? They never stated that on their website I assume they prioritize gaming 24/7 if not i will need to reconsider.

When someone surfs on shaped or unshaped you gonna have issues,online gaming doesn't always require alot of bandwidth, all you need is constant transfer of data, so obviously when someone is surfing it messes with the latency.

Oh ya I saw that special, regarding that gamers special. I don't quite get their advertisement. during working hours? That wouldn't really work out since we work and game after hours. And again no proper figures for their contention ratio nor upload speed, don't like being left in the dark regarding stats XD. Anyone here on that package can share their experience? Thanks

Yes I understand no matter what you will have latency issues while someone else uses your net, but won't normal shaping prioritize surfing over gaming, so therefore make it so that your game semi stops transfers of data till the webpage finishes loading. Then resend proper data for your game. Therefore you will receive lag spikes rather then just small latency issues. I thought it works like this, correct me if I am wrong.

Hey Gahno. I'm also on the verge of getting one of these gaming accounts but would like some feedback from someone who is already using it. I have read up on their website and here is what they have to say about this particular package:

Our Network Nerds (engineers) are addicted to gaming. The only problem is, they are obsessed with their downloads as well! They decided to create a special package that offers priority to Gaming traffic during office hours and Downloads After Hours at a fraction of the cost! (You see, they don’t like spending their hard earned Bling!

Gaming traffic will be prioritised on our Platinum Uncapped level 24 / 7. Downloads will be prioritized on our Gold Uncapped level After Hours. Other traffic will be on our Standard service level.

So I am guessing should you be heavily shaped your gaming should be unaffected in any way. Would be nice if someone could confirm just how this works. As a gamer a package like this would be awesome .

Firstly you won't be heavily shaped like really bad only when the network is busy which is not all the time. Your gaming will never be affected if you had to be heavily shaped. Only your download would be affected during the day.

Openweb is awesome. No ISP will give you hard numbers about their network.

I agree they are a strong and top ISP in South Africa, but you must admit Mwebs gaming campaign prioritize certain popular online game IP's to allow the best gaming experience is unique and a good thing for us gamers of course they would be rated the best gaming ISP for ZA

Hi Gahno, It states that gaming is prioritised 24/7 on their Platinum which is their best package and you pay quite a bit for it. Meaning it won't be shaped or Throttled.

To OpenWeb there is no catch lol

i am on mweb 1mbps uncap
and my ping in BF3 is around 9-20
on mw3 i play on german servers etc ping is there 180-250 and its playable no lag just from 300+ i can see it starts to lag

and 2mbps is a nice speed
nice for gaming/online streaming

My experience would be from 4mb uncapped to 2mb uncapped..

I've always been with MWEB ..i was on the 4mb uncapped but downgraded the 1st of Jan.

I am a gamer myself..from Wow-bf3-blacklight..my latency during the day to night is always at 185..SA servers are under 50.. 24/7

This is on my 2mb uncapped..to be honest 4mb in my opinion is still pricy..so go for 2mb uncapped MWEB

Well all I got to do now is see how fast telkom reacts and moves. Don't have any high hopes since i know they are the typical slow approach and not care attitude of service. Anyone got a contact? that i can bribe for a quicker service I just need someone to activate and find out what number my phone line is. I noticed I got an analogue line with those old yellow wall conductors / socket will it work? Can I just buy the other end and connect it and use it? or do I need them to install those new white box shaped wall conductors?

Dont think they reactivate a line that wasn't on your name. You have to do a fresh install.

OMG never knew this. That is... er... crap so now I gotta pay that R500 installation. It doesn't even make sense since there already is a analogue line installed why still pay so much. The task is like halved.

I think Telkom still has that cheap special! where you pay only R169 for 3months..this includes free installation and a 1mb uncapped or 10gig cap i'm not to sure ,including the router!! within 7days installation policy ...

after the 3 months you can decide to leave telkom and go with your own ISP you want ..or stay with them and get billed at the normal 1mb uncapped or capped packages..no contract! just pay month to month
