No line at home.
(Edit: There is a non active Telkom line in the dwelling. No Adsl was ever connected though)
So starting out fresh.

Went into a Telkom store but they couldn't answer my questions.

Anyway, not heavy on the downloading, but torrenting will be there ocassionally.

Some youtube and the like.

Month to month or contract including a good wireless router would be cool.

What's the expenses I'm looking at?

If you're only going to torrent at midnight, Telkom have the best all-in-one deals.

Thanks. That seems OK, especially on month to month. 1 bill to start off with. Checked Cybersmart too, coming in like R50 cheaper overall. Used them years ago with a capped account and never had issues. What are they like now?

Yeah, but that has a lot extras you may not need like 3G.

Something like this is cheaper:

They usually throw in a free modem if you take 2year contract.

No need for a contract. My dad is on the 10GB 2Mb package. He got all the goodies for free.

@OP - If you only plan on doing all your dl's after midnight, you can save quite a few bucks by opting for the capped option instead.
Nightsurfer time is included :)

Steer clear of Cybersmart. Just my 2cents. Use it, don't use it ...

Hi, we offer 2 home uncapped accounts, the premium and standard uncapped.

If you would like more information fell free to send me a PM

Cheaper but not really comparable.

The one includes land line rental while the other does not and the one is 4meg while the other is 2meg. Pretty sure they're also two different service levels (Basic vs Plus). Oh and the one includes line installation which is relevant since OP doesn't have a line.

Rather start with one of the Simple ones and then downgrade to the do basic one...

Thanks for all the replies. Just found out that there's actually a non active Telkom line in the dwelling. No Adsl was ever connected to it. Does that make life any simpler?

It means they won't have to physically put in a line you'll still need a techie to figure out where the line goes & get a number allocated.

They fixed there stuff.

Don't get me wrong Chevron and OP, Web Africa is far superior to AF.

But the reason I suggested AF is because the OP did state his not heavy on downloading but the occasional torrent will happen.

So I just feel the low price for 2mb/s uncapped knowing torrents are allowed would be the better choice here.

Don't get me wrong I will unfortunately not recommend AF for a serious/business user/entity as long as they are on MTN, because they are unpredictable.

I just felt in OP's case their 2mb uncapped would be better.

WebAfrica's uncap is R50 cheaper, but personally I have no experience with it especially regarding torrents, I was however on a 2mbps uncapped AF account so know for a fact that I am not recommending a blind product.

AFAIK you have to activate the phone line then apply for a self install adsl (hopefully there are ports).

Snap. Ports are not an issue. But no pairs at my distribution point. Though the store guy says it's still worth applying. Simple uncapped 2Mbps @R580, month to month and with a free wifi router. Hope it goes through
