Hey Peeps

was wondering if anybody knows if iburst has any plans to implement faster connection for the home user or are we gonna be stuck on 1meg forever?

It will remain on 1MB unless you upgrade to WiMAX. They are refocusing on SME and not consumer

There consumer sections has lost to much money.

Actually, I've been using the 2M modem for 4 months now and it rocks.

I think they had to do a firmware thingy on it though before we could launch it. Let me check.

This would really be cool. But 'till then Fur, how about a dual WAN port router? You connect two iBurst modems to one router, eating from one accounts' cap.

Jannie, it you be nice if you could give us a hint as to when we can expect to use the 2meg service?

yup 2 modems 1 account is confirmed, lots of threads about them :)

Hi Jannie, would the firmware you used be available for all current modems?

So when do we get to see some screenshots or something of this lil dual setup working then? ;)

^^ What S1ght said ;)

Too lazy to google now, but do one actually get routers with more than 2 WAN ports?

1Mb/sec is fine atm, it is the cap which is the BIGGER issue :). After all we find 7.2Mb/sec speeds on 3.5G and 4Mb/sec on ADSL (some say even 8Mb/sec is being tested). If speed was an issue, changing to HSDPA or ADSL is not difficult.

Buying a new modem for R2000 just to use up your cap faster, is not as attractive as keeping your old modem and getting more for the buck ;). But hey, if they bring out cheap modems and bring the caps up with the speed - it wouldn't be bad.

I concur with PeterCH

Most people have 3G or HSDPA (1.8mbit, 3.5mbit or 7.2mbit)

To be honnest i think 95% of mobile Internet users (3G, Iburst and such) don't need 500kbps speeds. 3G @ 384K speed is quick enaugh, even GPRS can give upto 64K speeds (6-8kb per second)

Speed isn't always the problem, the Cap on the other hand is very big problem (the actual problem is that the Cap usually isn't very big)

Most users will rather have a 2gig cap @ 512K speeds vs 1gig cap @ 1mbit. (my guess)
or rather a 3gig option speed limited to 384K.

Hey Jannievanzyl

Iam a bit confused then lol is the new 2meg service available? or is it still in testing phase.

Been thinking of trying the dual wan router but if theres a 2 meg option available i rather use that.

Dont forget to do a an exchange program for us where we can trade our old modems in for new ones please.
