Hi

My windscreen on my Audi A3 was hit by a stone on Friday 12th of December. I phoned insurance (Momentum Short Term) and they replaced the windscreen a week later, no problem! The replacement cost was about R7500 according to Glasfit.

Yesterday evening when driving home another stone hit the new windscreen. It is extremely close to the dashboard and is about 1cm into the black ceramic dots around the bottom edge of the windscreen. PG Glass say they can't fix as it is in the black ceramic, and the chip is too low and the can't get behind it to heat it up. Basically the said it must be replaced as the chip with crack and spread. I need to phone insurance now and put in the 2nd claim.

Has anybody had to replace a windscreen multiple times in such a short period? Is there anything I should/shouldn't say to insurance? I am just worried they give me flack and refuse to replace it. Insurance is with Momentum Short Term.

Thanks

I can't see why the insurance company (Momentum Short Term) won't pay. This type of claim isn't something where you are trying to better your situation. imho

I phoned them, explained what happened and the previous claim. All the consultant wanted to know was if the damage was due to a separate incident, or due to a "faulty" windscreen or workmanship when it was replaced last month. I told her it was a stone, so the consultant said its a separate incident and they will replace the windscreen.

I feel better now :)

Just get used to the chip. I had a chip in my windscreen for a few years, when I decided to replace it within less than a week the new one was chipped. I just drove with it for the rest of the years I had the car. Karma hates new windscreens.

While I don't agree with the sentiment, the karma part is true. Had a windshield cracked by a flung stone and replaced. Next day another one but luckily not hard enough to crack although it did leave a noticeable dent/scar on the windshield.

The funny thing is, in the years I drove with the cracked ones I never had another chip. Just seems as soon as I have a flawless windscreen some stone needs to just jump into it.

dont mean to be a bother, but, anyone who has had to replace a Renault Windscreen?

Aaaarrrrggghhhhhhh!!! The bothersome Renault windscreen questions are getting WAY out of hand!!!!!!

:p

I replaced a Clio windscreen about 10 years back. Afaik no different to any other vehicle. Any of the glass repair places can assist. Why?

What model? I am very keen to know the price of windscreens that have to be imported from France. Having recently learned that the side windows in my car was R12k from France. I dread to think of what the windscreen will be.
