2TB Drives

IMO 2 X 1.5T samsungs beats 1 x 2T drive in size and price :D but before I get jumped again by the know it all's, 2 only beats 1 if you got space for 2 drives and would realy like 3T of space, but not if you only need/ got space for 1

It sucks to say it, but I'd wait a bit more marine. The prices should go down and availability should increase in the next couple of months or so. I'm really needing one myself since my server can only take four drives and three of my terras are full. :(

With Toxin on that one. Rather wait and let the early adopters help bring pricing down a bit. 1TB is now common, the next step is 1.5TB and 2TB so expect pricing to slowly start dropping. I am expecting to see the same stuff happening to 26" screens now that 24" is almost the norm and pretty cheap. Well, hopefully they start dropping.

I'm holding out as well. Running out of space on my 2nd 1TB.

i went with 1.5TB's for now. Buying the largest drive on the market is not a good idea. They are always over priced...

1st up - 2tb's , no stock.

Drive Con has been saying no 2 weeks time, 2 weeks time everytime I call there for the last 3 months now.

I have been intent on going 2tb since october.

At Drive Con the best price it was at including vat was R1800.00 - (but may have changed again, depending on exchange rate and mark-up changes.)

But it tended to fluctuate between that price range and a couple hundred just under R2000.00

If with the new stock , I can still find them at this price (+/-R1800) I will def go for some more.

Short of getting the 1.5tb's for R900 including vat - at (+/-R1800) the 2tb's will do for me.

Not worth the effort and warranty issues if any arises.

NewEgg reached the R1800.00 price point last year mid year already, but shipping, insurance and any future warranty issues if any - out weight any benefits of getting it from abroad - stick it out until they get stock.

I managed to snag an imported one from a friend locally, but will see how it goes.

Biding my time - hoping that when next we get stock locally, it will be at a slightly lower price - say maybe just R200-R300 less, will make a def difference.

I may be wrong, but

1.5 @ R1000.00 = R1.50 per/gb

2.0 @ R1800.00 = R 1.11 per/gb

2x 1TB = R1450-R1700 so still beats the value/gig.

If the 1TB comes in at R1.6K then we're talking really good right now. However, it'd better be a 7200rpm drive and none of this 5900rpm stuff.

Are we all happy these days to pay the R1000 for a 1.5TB Seagate 7200.11 or are people still hanging on the 7200.11 issues?

Price per gb + free sata ports.

I got rid of the 1tb's won't be going back that way.

You are indeed wrong :)

R1000/1500GB = R0.66/GB

R1800/2000GB = R0.90/GB

;)

So 1.5TB is cheaper per gig.

Indeed that is true. But sata ports easily sorted out with a cheap sata adapter. Besides, the way I've been going, a 2TB drive will be full in no time and then we're back at the lack of sata ports again. :D

I need some Extra ports too :(
Mine are al; full up at the moment!
With two drives unplugged. Sigh
