2TB Drives

isn't it still gonna be cheaper to get 1tb's? slightly more space consuming, but cheaper in the long run?

As nice as a 2TB is, it is still well overpriced. Double the storage should not be double the price or more. 1TB goes for around R700 now and a 2TB is still over 2x as much. Just like 2x500GB costs more than 1x1TB. When they fall into the normal rules of storage then it'll be worth buying.

Ugh! I seriously need that 2 terra man. Over my three terra I've only got 20Gig open. :cries: :(

But I'll wait till they drop below R2k before buying........

Apparently DDR3 RAM prices have increased by 23 percent over the last month. LCD panels are expected to jump by as much has 20 percent and harddrive and DVD drive prices are also on the rise.

2TB is well above the norm pricing in terms of storage now, so yeah maybe prices are set to go up but I still think 2TB will drop just like 1TB dropped. It might not drop to the level we want, but it will drop. I mean, it needs to be less than 2 x 1TB, but if 1TB goes up then ofcourse pricing will still seem high even if it is less than 2x 1TB pricing.

We've been through all of this in the past when new higher storage drives have come out and prices for hardware has gone up and down in the past.

With the lack of production right now or lack of availability the manufacturers can put a premium on products, but doesn't it make you wonder with them seeing larger profit per unit then why would they rush to up production? Obviously they've still got the capacity to manufacture the demanded amount since they've done it in the past.

thats exactly what they will do, think about it, products that make more profit are pushed more than low profit items, they will produce more to make more profit, and prices will drop again, economics 101
