hi guys

i recently acquired a Seagate 2TB ST2000DL003 HDD, after installing and formatting, everything is fine, the drive shows in my computer.

when i start copying files to my new drive it goes half way, then freezes, and dialog box says 'not responding', cancel doesn't work, then PC freezes, after a couple of minutes desktop returns to normal, however then my 2TB HDD doesn't show up anymore after the freeze. doesn't show in device manager either, it sort of disappears until i reboot. it fails to copy anything.

running this as a slave drive on windows 7 64bit.

tried the hard drive on a different pc with windows 7 32bit and same symptoms appear.

an suggestions?

7200.14 needs similiar fix to 7200.11. No there is not... Seagate worked hard to prevent such fixes from working.
Connect drive to diagnostic terminal and capture drive startup messages. I don't have experience with this drive, maybe Southbit when comes back home.

As you have returned it I would suggest that you just wait. I checked on the Seagate site an there is an updated firmware that is available. I could not see a list of issues that it fixes. You can get it here

Regards

Tim
