I got my new cellphone on the weekend from "3" in the uk, a Nokia 95 8gb.Was very suprised when I was told that skype calls are free from my cellphone!
It usese a 3G connection to connect to skype so the call quality is very good, cool thing is you receive skype calls as if they are a normal phone calls as skype runs in the background on the cell.

I'm suprised a cell network has adopted skype and made it free considering they loose money everytime I call via skype.

Do you see SA networks adopting this in the near future?

From my understanding, "3" are marketing as a very converged voice/data/multimedia network.

In any case, one can run free VoIP over most 3G data networks (it's not really free as you're paying for the data) and while it doesn't always work well everywhere, it does seem to be improving in SA as the coverage of HSDPA improves.

Not until competition is introduced - unless we're to believe that they really did just rip up the London Agreement.

Ya understand you can run it over any 3g network but the fact you not even paying for the data used when connecting to skype on 3 is what impressed me.
