Hi, this is my first post on the forum, although I've been reading it regularly for about a month now.

Anyway, here's my question. After 1 Nov, will it be possible to use one of those IS accounts which gives you 30gb of local traffic (and which you can get from OpenISP for as little as R169) in conjunction with a NukeCap High Priority Proxy?

According to NukeCap, their proxy allows for gaming, browsing and P2p, so theoretically you should be able to make full use of your 30 gigs. (Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't using NukeCap also eliminate Telkom's onerous shaping?)

The costs would be R169 for the account, plus R120 for the proxy. In other words, R289 for a fully functional 30gb account that will keep on working *after* 1 Nov. Am I missing something here? If this is such a good idea, why isn't everyone planning to do it?

Firstly, welcome as a member! ;)

Secondly, I am also very interested in the answers, and I hope MrBeep or Clipse will answer this (or anybody else who knows the answers! :)) Send them a PM, directing them to this thread...

Hey!

Well, we also offer you OpenBrowse, that will allow Browsing and Email after your cap. We are currently working on our gaming solutions and a nice sexy download package!

For R239 per month, you can get a bundled 2GB IS ADSL acount + a 192K OpenBrowse account, that allows HTTP/HTTPS/FTP access after you are capped!

Does this mean after I reach my international cap I can still browse international sites at 192?

Also the way I underdstand it is after I reach my international cap I can download lets say from a local torrent site at the speed of my line should the torrent be well seeded or will it get shaped in any way.

Lastly can I after reaching my cap play on local game servers the way I used to after being capped on SAIX?

peace

Hey VJB,

We are currently delibirating whether we should setup our own, or use IS's. Either way, we will provide you access to a news server with the 3GB package and above. :)

what exacty does that mean?

after I'm done using the 2Gigs I can get a 192K line (OpenBrowse account) and use another 30Gig International?

also since this is IS does that mean that I have to pay R1000 + installation fee?
and that I have to pay at least R500 for a router beacuse I can not use mine?

No Installation Fee, No conctracts, No router! You can use your own router :)

Well, it kinda means this. After you reach your cap, you can browse at the OpenBrowse speed you choose, via one of our local proxies.

Hope this helps :)

Well if I dont have access to the IS newserver there is no way I'm gonna sign up with you guys...

now what about concurent connections? I have a nice little lan here where everyone can access the internet from their rooms at the same time will this still be possible with an Is account and will this be possible after capping using the proxy?

oh MrBEEP sorry one last q (I know i've asked to many :p) will i still be able to use msn messenger after being capped on the proxy??

Yes. MSN works through our proxy. Although MSN is down most of the time...lol

Er, I'd still like an answer to my original question, if it's possible.

MrBeep, I understand that you guys are working on a proxy that will give you 30 gigs of HTTP and P2P traffic. If you can get that to work, that will be amazing. It effectively means that the 30 gig accounts will not die after November.

However, you guys haven't rolled out your service yet, and until you do, I'd like to know what the other options are. NukeCap claim that their proxy gives you both HTTP and P2P, and I'd like to know whether it will work witha 30gb IS account. Also, to reiterate my earlier question, assuming it can be done, are there any disadvantages with this setup? It seems like such a good deal on paper (30gb international for R289 per month), but then why isn't everyone planning to do it after 1 Nov hits?
