31.3% Electricity Tariffs Increase Approved by NERSA

COAL?

Eskom have realised that, in order to feed their new and exciting electricity power generators, that they are going to be needing a heck of a lot more coal.

And, they grudgingly admit that the current coal supply is not reliable.

Also, apparently ESKOM has been requiring 5% more coal per year for the past few years. This seems to be happening even though the actual electricity produced via coal has decreased, with much more reliance on diesel generators coming to the front. Quite amazing how figures can be tweaked to suit whatever the current need is.

At the same time, calls for government to nationalise the mines have been stifled.

But .. somewhere in the back of my mind I can see the ESKOM cash cow suddenly branching out and opening up and running coal mines for Africa. These will of course require further capital expenditure, previously un-budgeted.

I think dropping your reliance on Eskom electricity is no longer an option, it's a full necessity.
 
lets strike for 15% increase...throw trash around...break some car windows..

EISH!!! no no no no!!!!
you do not have to replace the fittings, you only change the lightbulb to a LED one. same procedure when one of your current bulbs stop working.
and the fluorescent tube LED replacements can work without starter and ballast.

EISH!!!!! there is so much wrong information out there!!!!!!!!!!!!

you can get LED's from the bigger hardware stores, BUT PLEASE LET ME DEMO OUR LED'S BEFORE YOU BUY ANY, you will see the difference in the light output.

penalty tariffs

hello all,

below are 2 links to articles about the proposed eskom penalty tariffs they were thinking of bringing in last year. they did not implement these because of the local and international economic troubles.

i heard a birdy chirping the other day that next year april they will be implementing this because the ecomony is starting to recover, albeit slowly. seeing Tito dropped the interest rate by half percent.

if i understand the first para correctly, WE ARE GOING TO GET ESKOM OUT OF THE RED!!!!!!!

how about cutting down your electricity account by changing your lights to LED lights,
and in the process giving eskom less money per month?

LED lights SAVE MORE ENERGY than "energy saving" bulbs.
