Kyei said that the first LTE chipsets are set to be ready for testing in mid-2010, and that mass produced chipsets should start filtering through in the last quarter of 2010. LTE embedded laptops and broadband dongles will however only be available in 2011/2012.
When it comes to Africa Kyei expects that a 2012/2013 commercial date is realistic
While theoretical speeds of up to 173 Mbps are possible on LTE, Kyei said that a base station throughput of 40 Mbps is realistic and end users should expect a real-life experience of around 2 Mbps.
I almost got exited, thinking ya finally something wireless that can overtake ADSL, but then I read this line:
What am I missing, if real life experience will be only 2 Mbps, then why bother...![]()
Why would you want more than 2 Mbps anyway, it's not like you are able to use it in South Africa.
O_O look 35Mbps, start download on 1GB cap and 3.8 minutes later your cap is up DOPE!
Most major mobile carriers in the United States and several worldwide carriers have announced plans to convert their networks to LTE beginning in 2009.
that means we can expect a watered down version of this technology to be launched here around 2020 that will cost 6000% more than it did anywhere else in the world.
i can see tons of bright sparks in this thread!... totally clueless!
