HI my 360 just rrod on me while i was playing forza ! i know i must contact Mi digital (is this still the number 011-723-1800 ?) I just wanted 2 know is there a swop out fee that i shuld be paying now for a replacement or is the replacement free ? Manufacturing Date of console is 2006-07-26 and where can i get the contact number of microsoft to get a ref number pls ?

Microsoft 0800 991 550, to get you reference number and ... erm ... troubleshoot. Is this the original console you bought or a swop-out unit? If its a swop-out unit, there's only a 3-6 month warranty on it.

Thats still MI Digital number yes. A handling fee of 600 or so if you don't have proof of purhcase (assuming the RROD is on your original unit). Swop-out is free if you can show a receipt.

....and that's the main reason why I will never be buying an XBox 360!:sick:

Do they not have any faith in their products?

What happens if the swopout unit dies (given the current failure rate!) after 4-7 months? Out of pocket?:(
 
The chances are that you'll get the new stock with a HDMI port. They're almost bullet-proof due to being on the new manufacturing process.

2005-2006 models are the ones that have the failure rate, and thats where the myth of "pathetic" xbox 360s comes from :D
 
Called ms and recieved a reference number and my console is still under warranty according to their records :) , the problem is that my ex gf bought me the console and im not the one sitting with the proof of purchase even though i have everything else that came with the console (including the original packaging).

Wot must i take back only the console or console with all standard accessories ?
I Have a lot of stuff on my HDD that i would like to keep cause there is no way in hell im going to download all that stuff again :confused: ! Can I keep my HDD ?

No stress, you're still under original warranty. phone MS for the reference then take it back, with proof of payment to where you bought it. (phone ahead for stock)

That's not exactly right. You get the balance of your 3 year warranty or 3-6 months, whichever is greater.
 
i'm guessing with no receipt a local store may not be able to be used.(or will use it as an excuse not too).

With MS number + receipt + original packing you can take it to ANY store and swopout.

If you got to use MI Digital they want the console inc harddrive but excluding cables/controls etc,+ they seem to have been doing that R600 odd surcharge by the sounds to those without receipts.

Easiest would be to try get that receipt.
 
Called Mi Digital but no one is picking up :( ! is there another contact number available for them ?
 
They want to charge me R1184 which is R684 for swopout and another R500 for couriering it to joburg ! Maestro how did u fix that arcade model ? I dont think im willing to pay such alot just for a swopout that has a 3 - 6 month guarantee
 
If it's still under the 3 year thing, they can't charge that ..... unless it's an overseas console?
 
Hi dude. Its a messy thing to fix the xbox360 with a ring of death.

X-clamp replacement, hair dryer, alcohol/surgical spirits as well as a heat gun. I must actually update my sig, as that machine now has an E73 error (ethernet port is bust).

If push comes to shove, post it to me and I'll do the spade work for you in JHB. I have another console that has an E74 error (GPU/Scalar chip busted) that I need to swop-out.

R500 is ridiculous for couriering :(

busy keeping myself occupied with (and hopefully i will finish both ) Mario galaxy and Legend of Zelda until this Red ring thing is sorted :) ! really miss playing my gears, grid and eternal sonata though :( !

Maybe they felt sorry for me, I did arrive in one of the worst storms this summer, soaked and desperately trying to keep the container dry. But they took in my 2 year old Aus 360 and I got it swopped out in minutes.
