Can anyone advise on the legitimacy of 360 security for androids, as they say, for Samsung only.

My wife is thinking of installing it.

Why does she want to install an AV? Just like on Windows they are mostly snake oil specially since Windows 10 and MSE (rebranded to Windows Defender) is included by default. It gets updated every day.

Google already have an app scanner just make sure it's enabled under Google Settings. Also update her device to the latest Android version available for it. http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...ices-app-now-works-on-gingerbread-and-higher/

Remember when Google's app verification and malware scanning service debuted with Android 4.2? No? Well, that's probably because statistically speaking, you're likely to be one of the 95% of Android users rocking 4.1 or earlier. To help address this, it looks like Google has moved the Verify Apps system to Google Play Services, which at this point should be installed on all Google Play Store-equipped Android devices running Gingerbread or higher.

If she just wants to clean the device (app cache etc) then use something like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.piriform.ccleaner&hl=en or Clean Master. An AV will just slow the device down and prolly eat battery life.
