Good evening guys.

I have been having sleepless nights about my predicament.
I own a e220 hsdpa modem and currently buy 2 gigs per month.

Seeing all the wonderful changes on the ASDL side of things has left me jealous and depressed.
Im so sick of running out of cap on the 20th of the month and want at least double the cap.

My maximum monthly budget is R450 for internet and 384 is my only viable option for extra bandwidth to stay in budget and pay a landline[which i will hardly ever use].
Will the difference in speed from the faster HSDPA really be felt?
I really have no issue with slower speeds as long as 384 kbps isn't the speed of edge.35kbps would be fine for me.

I live in a flat that currently has land line infrastructure in place and have no clue what to expect in terms of installation costs for reactivation and to get a number.
Secondly, i need to extend the phone socket to my second bedroom and wanna D.I.Y, if it will save me costs.

Im thinking of joining cybersmart to take advantage of their future 4gig 384kbps package with night rider and maybe cap extender.
I need a modem too so cybersmart is tempting considering ASDL line rental is included with a modem[R270 once-off]

Bearing in mind i have HSDPA with 2gigs per month, is the 384kbps[Not anything else]worth all of the effort?

Please advise as i am so two minded about this.
Thanks!

I have a 384 adsl line and am quite pleased with the regular speed used for browsing, obviously speed on downloads are no great shakes, but it works fine.

As for the DIY part to move to another room, find the cheapest 2-core wire, usually speaker or other junkie wire does just fine, and hook them up.

As for the ISP, good luck with your choice, cybersmart seems like a good choice.

I switched from 3G to ADSL, also only 384Kbps, but am getting 3Gb+line+ADSL for less than I was paying for 2Gb on 3G. Yes, the speed is lower, but so is latency if you are into gaming. If not, well, I just like the always on part of it.

Will upgrade to 4Mb once the budget allows it. As for ISP, well, check my sig for my preference. :D

Thanks for the insight guys.
On paper a 384kbps connection seems like a downgrade, however the extra cap and stability seems to counter that.
I wonder if i should hold out a tad longer for cybersmart's new official pricing?
I also wonder if telkom will bump up 384kbps users to 512 anytime soon.

my 384 line is running at between 140kBs and 500kBs downloading from the newz server. so interms of speed it loads facebook as fast as my hsdpa use to.you wont regret it . btw you cant afford to download anything on hsdpa anyway.
