I've applied for an upgrade to a 4Mb line from a 384Kb/s one. That was more than a month ago now. Today I went back to the telkom shop and according to the person working there my line doesn't support a 4mb connection. How true is this? I've been using the 384kb line now for more than 3 years and nothing on their site says that certain areas only support certain speeds. It only says that your exchange needs to support DSL which it obviously does seeing as I'm using ADSL.

VooDoo - where abouts are you situated because im also interested in applying for an increase but dont wanna get excited for niks

Re-apply and insist on a full sync test. Not just them peaking at their PC monitor. Their data is not accurate.

Will do. I will call the 10219 number again on monday. AFAIK there are other people in this area who's on a 4mb line and they're on the same exchange

Close to the Technichon or VUT as they call it now. S.E 6

i know the guys towards emerald are 2 far from exchange to get 4meg - but if you are say .5km from vut you should have 4meg easily because then the exchange is just to the north of mediclinic - 2 streets

If I throw a rock a little hard I'll hit one of the VUT students outside a classroom.

I recently upgraded to 4mb and the first week had 4mb speeds now I'm stuck on 2.1mb.

Don't think it's just distance from exchange at work!

its cable distance not physical distance to the exchange so u could be a round the corner but the cable maybe take the long route. sounds funny but its to do with how they laid the pipes in your area

I applied and it wasn't even 1 minute and my line was upgraded to 4mb

This all depends on SNR and line attenuation whether or not you line can support full 4mbps.

Log into the router and go to advance status's - you can view all that info there.

Search on MyBB - someone once posted a full explanation on line attenuation and SNR...
